Funky hair on Gransnet

Wow, constance, I love it! My streaks are as bright as yours this morning, but in a couple of weeks they will be gone.

Tell us how quickly they wash out please, as I'm very tempted, in a 'you-walk-over-the-bridge-and-see-if-it-holds' sort of way!!

constance your hairstyle looks rather like the one in the picture that I took to the hairdresser's today.
However, my end result doesn't look like that (why, why, why!!)

DH just came home and said 'that doesn't look like the picture'
so if he noticed it must be wrong!!

Not sure, it is a bit odd.

I was blonde as a child and now have no real idea of my natural colour as I have been a variety of NiceNEasy beige/champagne colours for years. When the colour starts to grow out it is white/silver so probably wouldn't look too bad, but I'm not prepared to try it.

Many years ago my eldest son, then very fair and in his early teens, decided to dye his hair whilst I was out at the shops. He chose a real black, which was bad enough, but as it grew out it turned navy, mauve, crimson and various other horrors until it was long enough to get it cut.

My daughter on the other hand tried at the same age to colour her blonde hair pink with cochineal.

Shysal the colour took really well in your hair, how did you manage to get real streaks in it?
Jalima the end result never looks like the pics we take into the hairdressers does it?

Roses, I used thick strands on lengths of foil, painted, folded, and left colour on for 30 minutes. If I had straight hair all one length the effect would have been much more professional looking.
DD, who used to be a hairdresser, is calling in soon, don't know what she will say!

I've copied it so I can show my hairdresser how I'd like mine! Hope you don't mind.
I asked my hairdresser for more white streaks to go with my own but they've come out blonde and I really hate them.

I used to have mine styled like yours suzied and felt that was how it suited me best. However since hair loss all around the front and the back hairline I have had to wear it bobbed to disguise it which I think makes me look older. (I know.... I am older but I don't have to accept it!!!)

To make up for that I dyed it cherry red which was great for a while but then as grey, pepper and salt roots grow in it looks bad again. I can't seem to manage root touch ups (and they take as long as a full head!) I also don't want to dye on dye as it were, on already fragile hair so I have to spend a month or so looking *!!!*. I can't afford to have it done at the hairdresser so I have to learn patience and ignore how it looks.

It is some years now since I stopped colouring my hair and let my grey grow. Life is so much easier! Persevere Grandma2213, it will be worth looking cr*p for a while.

Constance very brave of you and it looks good, it's a great cut for thick hair.

I'm lucky - got a great hairdresser for the cutting - but can only afford to do this once or twice a year. You could try at home if someone is there to help. Basically they dye about an inch or so of red all the way round so my (naturally) white hair flops down over the top. I started with a couple of big red streaks on either side that were more hidden than this, and my hair was longer. Having just the underneath done means there is no issue with roots growing in. The colour slowly fades to pink over a few months - I use very gentle shampoo which may be why the colour fades so slowly.
It is funny that people stare and I forget it's because I've just had my hair done.

Grandma2213 when my hair was changing from dyed brown to its actual grey then the white it is now I used to get highlights on the parting line - cheaper than having it all over and disguised roots quite well.
And some hairdressers have trainee model nights which can be free or cheap - they are well supervised at my hairdressers.

Jalima do you mean the cut or the colour? This new cut is a bit of a throwback to my 1980s cut for me - it's been mostly in a bob for the last few years.

jalima Trouble with taking a picture to a hairdresser and asking for a particular style it does not take into account your type of hair: thickness, texture etc. A good hairdresser will tell you if it will work for you or not!

I was reading recently that yours is the new fashion for 2017 - bushy and curly.

It is redder than my natural colour which was very dark brown but with natural red highlights...my dad had black, curly hair mum had poler straight red head. I am now totally grey but my lovely hair stylist 'paints' it for me every 6 weeks. I am not as red as the picture now...that was about 5 years ago but just as curly!
DD1 is a red head, DD2 has my colour hair (as it was!) ..both have curls.

Have poker straight fine hair, and think when you get a bit older natural curls and volume are such a bonus!

It's also pandering to those who mock and insult people with ginger hair, and using 'a ginger' as a noun to describe the person is itself dubious.
