Any Recommendations for a London musical

I know nothing about pink things but absolutely everyone I know who has seen The Lion King has said it is absolutely brilliant and just right for a 7 years and adults. Enjoy

Mamma Mia is really good fun too.

Cats especially if you introduce her to the poetry first.

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory or Matilda are both excellent. Don't know if Annie is still running in West End as it's on tour

My GS (9) went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London last year. He said it was brilliant.

Family have really enjoyed Matilda and Mama Mia.

Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Cats, the Railway Children , Wicked , all excellent family shows.

For anyone within reach of Plymouth there is Billy Elliot currently at the Theatre Royal, with fantastic dancing etc. DH and I went to see it and were very impressed (though the language is a bit strong, as it is about the miners' strike).

Lucky you Rubysong. I would have LOVED to have seen Billy Elliot in Plymouth but the price of the tickets was very much out of my reach. The best musical I saw in London a few years ago was We Will Rock You, but my all time favourite was Phantom - that was when I fell in love with Michael Ball!!!!

Nansypansy regarding high ticket prices - a friend of a friend is secretary of his works social club and obtains block-bookings, something like 40 tickets and gets a great discount.

I've just been to see Motown the Musical where a £70 seat in the royal circle cost £35; similarly paid approx £25 to see Beautiful (Carole King). Motown was great but I wouldn't have paid £70 for a musical.

Ask around friends and neighbours, social clubs, libraries, etc. Block-bookings are the mainstay of many 'middle-ranking' productions.

There are bargains to be had through an Internet sesrch. Try Groupon.
If you can risk it go to the cut price ticket booths in Leicester Square on the day. Matinées are usually better value.
I would recommend a restaurant in China Town, they are all excellent. Look for one that is full of Chinese, not always the best looking premises but always great food.

I saw Billy Elliot in London and loved it. I was lucky, I went with my brother in law by marriage whose son was working at the theatre so our tickets were free- my one and only time of having free tickets.

Re restaurant, try and keep away from obviously touristy roads- sometimes a side street will have a good restaurant and I agree, go for one frequented by Chinese.

Based on my experience matinees are no cheaper!

I don't know your age Riverwalk, but for the over-60s matinees do offer a good reduction on top-price tickets, often at half price.

The Lion King every time! Sorry I can't recommend anywhere to eat!

Not all restaurants in China town are excellent, have had some bad experiences. You can often get discounts on tickets through various london theatre tickets websites, last minute. com etc sometimes they have meal deals, so you get a meal as well as a ticket. Usually for midweek shows.
