The Great Interior Design Challenge

How many rooms have high enough ceilings to cope with a 'lamp' that tall? And using blue tack!

It must be very hard to think under pressure like that, but these two were supposed to be creative and it looked like they had the same choice from the van as the two from last week. Holly and Frankie did a much better job and as the judges said last week, finish is important because it was about showing what you can do in the time given. Hey ho.

That blue is definitely a bit much!

The client was no spring chicken either. I don't know if she slept alone, but I have never fancied being the one by the wall in a bed and climbing over the other to get to the lol!

I don't always open my eyes when I get up to go to the lol in the night, so I'd come a cropper with a high bed pretty quickly!

I do love being an armchair judge!

I think if I did have one of those beds I'd be tempted to crawl into it at the start of winter and remain there for the duration. Would just need a few remote controls for the telly etc.

Tegan how about using the coat stand as a........coat stand?We had one just like it when I was about ten years old.

Wilma The pic you have up of the light blue high bed is exactly the same in style as the one done on the programme, is it not?

Tegan I got a magazine rack in the same syle as your coat stand, was going to do it up, but, after it hanging around the house not moving, it hit the bin!

I have treated myself to a "LOVE" photo album for St. Valentine's Day, bought some crystals and buttons to embellish the front and then had some photos done today at that well known chemist. They are photos I have taken from tele programmes of houses/rooms done which I have loved and wanted to have a picture of them. So now I am creating a scrap book of my favourite decor and houses (like gorgeous George Clarke's houses/restorations and the not so gorgeous Kevin McCloud's houses ). I'm looking forward to putting it all together.

Love your scrapbook idea! Very posh! We have watched George Clarke since he started on TV and we love watching his antics with poor Will! Now there's a talented man. Thank goodness he keeps George under control!

Actually I have a lot of time for Oliver thingy who is one of the guest judges this year. He was one of the designers on Changing Rooms (think it was that show) and he's come on a long way since then.

Wilma not only was the bed the same, but the rug on the floor also looked identical!

Wilma yes, Oliver did designs on DIY SOS too, lovely man.

It does look the same, even down to the number of flowers put on the panels. If she has took on someone else's ideas and design, then it's not original and she shouldn't have gone through. Not the whole room, maybe an idea for a bit of it but the whole bed and wardrobe?

I think Lucy might well have used that photo for her design. IIRC she had a template she used to outline the flowers she then painted by hand, but I think what she painted was a more simple design than in the photo. She did paint letters on each side piece on the front of the bed like in the photo though and looking at other beds on Pinterest, I can't see this being a common thing even on museum exhibits.

The rug would be pretty common, as the wooden floor would just have simple homemade rugs on them. I'm not sure how common the blue paint would be, although blue on a white background is very common in Scandinavian countries.

It does look like she tweaked the design in the photo for her room and I'm a bit disappointed now that she didn't use elements from other sources instead of so much from just the one.

Re the mature client getting into the bed, it was her guest room. Even so I would have made a little step stool to go next to it.

nina there was no bedside cupboard either. You couldn't just reach down and put your specs/coffee/book on the floor from that bed.

Let's hope that the homeowner's guests are more limber than us lot

The homeowner did want it to be totally authentic so to have made it easier to use would have gone against the brief.

I think for authenticity, it should have had a step. Some high beds have just a ledge as the step instead of a full blown box step. The ledge meant you could still have easy access to the space at the very bottom. Some full steps were attached and some could be removed out of the way. I expect it depended how much they needed the space beneath the bead for storage or what would be kept in the space.

Some beds had a shelf or two on the interior wall.

I, too, love this programme (and almost missed it as I didn't see any publicity for its return. Had to have a mammoth session on catch-up TV!).

I still remember a particular fabric used for curtains in a previous episode (white background with big splashes of aubergine and touches of green, in case anyone knows where I can find it!)

My question is... would any Gransnetters let the programme free rein in their homes?

We did have a card sent to the S.O.'s holiday place in Northumberland but didn't reply as we assumed the other flat owners in the building wouldn't be interested. I can't help but feel that the bedroom with the flowered wallpaper that was awful will be replaced by the programme makers. I've never wanted my home to be designed by someone else; I feel that a home and it's occupants need to grow and develop with each other.

This is my latest 'find'. The upcycled bedside cabinets that I'd painted weren't tall enough for the bed and I needed a very tall lamp as a reading lamp; looked in several high street shops and couldn't find what I wanted but found a pair of these in the cellar room of a local bric a brac shop!The wrapping paper was in a shop in Alnwick; not sure what to do with it but I love the pattern! [sorry to go on a bit but I'm kind of thinking out loud on here ]....

candelle I would, I think. I love stuff like this, always painting furniture etc. but my finish is quite poor and I'm not very adventurous.

I know what I like though and I would LOVE to have someone in to express my thoughts in a slightly out-of-the-box kind of way. Free of charge, of course

Découpage for the wrapping paper?

I've nearly finished all the upcycling for our granny pad - just a tall, narrow bedroom cupboard to paint once DH has finished making it. After that I'm going to go mad on the mobile home that DD and the DGSs have just vacated. I'm really excited because I can be as adventurous as I like. There are three bedrooms and a large lounge so I've just done a stock take of all my paints and fabrics.

Great opportunity for a 'use up'
