12 year old granddaughter left alone all day while parents work while 7pm, have obviously offered to have her but she likes her independance. I do try arrange day trips etc I hate her going off to the park, shops etc on her own. Messaged tonight to say have a good day back at school tomorrow. Parents out. She is going to bed before they get home. I am sad and mad.

Thankyou JenniferEccles. I find this very disturbing . Its her parents job to ensure their daughter is safe and emotionally stable- a 12 year old needs guidance and
security and not be left alone for so long!

Thank you everyone. I have said things before..I have had a thought to see if I can invite her and another grandchild to tea after school weekly and be more aware of things. The other local grandchild has the opposite parenting and has SO many activities it will be difficult fitting her in lol I have to say I think the one I am concerned about is naturally introvert but it's just school and home and that's it. She seems content with her own company but it's the safety aspect. It was her who ( whilst chatting with me on snap).that said her parents were out. Of course I offered to go and keep her company but she said No. Isn't it strange you bring up your own children and they parent theirs completely different to each other?

I guess it doesnt help as due to my work I receive alerts from the local Safeguarding Board. There has also been a huge flood of newcomers in the area that hang about on the street corners. She is sensible but for me its the unknown situations. Guess i am just far too concerned. Quite rightly you said its not really my concern. Very nicely put Cossy, thank you. I appreciate your input.

It just shows you’re a very loving grandmother x
