So many questions being asked!

Nothing I post would be of any help to anyone trying to get at my passwords/memorable events etc. I have more sense than to post anything that might give that away, or even hint at itto it.

I thought they were fill-ins, but some are mildly intrusive.

They’ve made me wary although I did post on one I’ve ignored the rest. So much information gathered.

Yes, I think it’s important not to be paranoid but also to be mindful of motive when lots of questions are being asked. And, as I said, even if that person is doing so innocently, the things that are revealed could be useful to others whose intentions are not innocent.

Often, people are not very imaginative when it comes to making up passwords, may use combinations of the numbers from their date of birth, a pet’s name, a place they come from or would like to visit etc.

Look up data harvesting, brute force attacks and credential stuffing to see what hackers and scammers do.

The previous threads were asking where your dog slept, what can you see from your window.

It was verging on creepy so I did report it.

I think this is less sinister but a little odd.

I was wondering if perhaps they were setting a novel back in the mid-20th & wanted a few details for realism..
Don't think any sort of, impressions, from then would help identify who I am now?

If you are talking about the account name that springs to mind which is a new one, they aren’t discussions. They are lists, like most of the games.

Even if the person initiating all these is doing so innocently they are effectively asking for data that could be useful to hackers if there were to get hold of the members’ account database.

The amount of daily bot-generated accounts on this site is very worrying suggesting to me that site security is poor.

People give far too much away about themselves in chat anyway, their dates of birth, where they bank and so on. It’s very worrying.

There was another account name doing this recently. Same person? If this latest is genuine perhaps they could reply here to explain their curiosity.

Admin do not see a problem thus far but will keep an eye out.

Have to admit I've probably added to a couple but I'm glad I'm not imagining it.

And members keep giving out information 🤷‍♀️
If a complete stranger came up to you in the street would they still give some of this information out, No.
But because GN is viewed by many as this cosy little club it’s perfectly safe.
It shows when members post that tgey don’t use social media.
That shows they have no idea what this site is.

We’ve had spates of threads like this before.
Charitably I’d like to think it’s a lonely person desperate to be involved in a conversation so is firing off questions to provoke a reaction.
But what colours/sounds/smells remind me of the home I left 60 years ago?
I neither remember nor care.

Jaxjacky Fri 17-Jul-26 16:32:40

I’ve asked admin to have a look.

BlueBelle Fri 17-Jul-26 16:32:24

Yep I agree

Jaxjacky Fri 17-Jul-26 16:29:40

There does seem to be a pattern.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 17-Jul-26 16:27:58

I was just thinking the same 🤔

tanith Fri 17-Jul-26 16:26:42

Is it just me or am I imagining something that is just simple curiosity? Just hope they aren't fishing for information?
