Disturbing ad breaks AIBU

My DD was about three during the AIDS crisis in the eighties. They used to show adverts for condoms often around tea time. This made me cross and I felt young children would be seeing them and ask questions, the next time one came on my DH jokingly said “what’s a condom!” To which DD piped up. “Oh Daddy, don’t be silly, it’s one of those”.

Bridget they’d wash over most children unless you leap for the remote drawing attention to them. If they do ask questions, it’s a good opportunity to answer honestly as with any other questions about bodily functions.

My view too. I agree it's a chance to talk facts of life over if the child with you raises it. Whats wrong with the facts of life? I wish I'd had more info at that age.

I think the only ones that drive me spare are the funeral plans, and one of two of the bathroom aids stuff.

I'm OK with the co-op funeral one with a group of women having a good time together after having briefly mentioned it, but the ones with the "friendly neighbour coming round and both having a "how wonderful" moment are so yucky.
and the bath aids ads where a beautifully made up woman 60 + at the most ...

I do think my TV knows how much I'd hate those ads.

To my huge relief you must be watching different tv to me- I don’t recognise any of these, except the sanitary towel one and I always used to worry about the apparent use of blue-blooded models for these.

I record all programmes I plan to see and watch later so that I can fast-forward any ads.

And no, I don’t think enemas are given now. I know they were unpleasant, but they served a purpose, surely, to be a bit more hygienic?

Freeview and/or Sky. It shows as channel 28.

I'm intrigued - haven't seen a lot of the ones described- do smart TVs show different ads to different people? And if so (scary) how do they assess it.

After the Sky programme I am watching starts these ghastly ads about RSPCA animals, donkeys and bears etc I switch to another channel, go to the loo or get a drink so I don't see it if left on mute. I know it happens but do they have to be so graphic?

I hate all the ads and mute them and leave the room, plus I record most things now so can fast forward them.

I hate the cremation one's. The graphic sanitary ones. I have even seen one's on erectile dysfunction, and the animal ads

Ditto and the ones showing the blood on the pad, totally unnecessary IMO. If they are really trying to show that bodily functions should be openly discussed etc I can think of a a few that could be done that affect everyone and some that affect just men, after all we are always told men do not talk like women do!
What you have described specki4eyes does sound very sad and scary! I am of the opinion that it shows that the tech companies with their billions of dollar in profits are not at all as invested as they should be to help make their developments safe for their users.

the shock is what makes you donate and some charities are running on empty at the moment and really need the donations, the money from these adverts is also keeping the channel running, i usually nip into the kitchen during ad breaks and do something or nip to the loo, turn the sound down and don't look, nobody is forcing you to look and listen but someone with a cat on there knee or a dog sleeping at there feet might just think...well it is only £2 a month and sign up. if that is all you have to worry about then you are lucky.

It reduces me to tears every time it comes on.

I know exactly what you mean, we have one that pops up from the RSPCA before our local news at 6 pm. It's so horrifying for an animal lover like myself. I know cruelty to animals goes on but I don't want graphic pictures. Also the donkey ones are truly awful.
