Just watching the morning news on BBC1 and of course is all about the heatwave. The section about schools starts by showing a close up of two children’s backsides in shorts - presumably in gym kit - the boys backside in longer shorts but the girls backside in very short shorts.
Why on earth is this being used??!!

Re: the op.
I totally agree.

Sago

I haves just returned from our nearest market town, the main car park had at least half a dozen white vans pulled up with men inside, it was 3.30 and lots of teenage schoolgirls with rolled up shirts and skirts were walking toward Tesco.

I watched the men watching the girls.

I’m afraid like it or not there are many perverts.

I caught one pervert in a busy shopping centre filming young girls, security were useless.

Never be complacent.

You were also watching teenage schoolgirls with rolled up shirts and shorts.

You were also watching men.

Are you a pervert? Or just a people watcher?

Watching girls or men is not proof of sexual perversion.

Steady on, butterandjam: your criticism of Sago is over the top and those remarks are very much uncalled for!

I apologise for calling her just a people watcher, so easy to get the wrong end of the stick.

Just wondering why many female popstars wear hardly anything? If they were any good at singing they wouldn’t need to draw attention to themselves in other ways.

.You would be surprised at how many children are allowed, even encouraged into sexualised clothes with the full support of their parents.: oh, she looks so grown up. They pay for them. This at primary school.

Ah but who says these clothes are sexualised? If they’re at primary school they just want to look and dress like their fav pop star or even their friends.

It’s adults that decide these clothes are sexualised and adults who are (normally) the issue.

Lots of little girls like to dress like “mummy”, my daughters never had that issue as I spent most of my lives in jeans and t shirts, hair in a pony tail, no make up, no high heels, no nail varnish. Hence no real interest in these very girly looks.

Like shopping wearing pjs

In the winter I saw a young women out shopping in full nightwear, PJs, dressing gown and slippers! I laughed and it reminded me of how my Dad would sometimes pop some clothes on top of his PJs if picking me up in the car late at night. Did the same! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A lot of these young kids wear these very tight lycra type shorts which are more like knickers. They are skin tight and have a wide seam up the back between your bum cheeks.

I think these outfits look absolutely ghastly whoever is wearing them, especially in very light colours 🤮🤮🤮

I watched earlier children walking to the local primary school in similar attire Fallingstar.
There is a balance between over sexualising young children and normal clothing, I wouldn’t have wanted my children or grandchildren frightened into ‘covering up’ in case of?
Most molested children are assaulted by a family member or close family friend.

I agree. Little girls in particular are very fond of what they see as “mini pop stars” attire.

Our last two children went through quite a long phase of not wanting to wear clothes at all, it was a bit of a nightmare if the older children brought their friends home!

But we’ve always had our children bathing with us (their request) whilst toddlers! One of us would sneak off for a quiet bath and one or other of them would appear half naked at the bath side. They all crawled into bed with us at the weekends or if they had a nightmare.

It sometimes can be quite hard to get the right balance, however, they were taught from a very young age that nobody should be touching their bodies or coming into the toilet with them, sometimes even family members. But whilst we always wanted to protect them and make them aware their bodies “belonged” to them, we didn’t want to give them any kind of complex about their bodies or “nakedness”.

I think you’re looking for problems, OP. Why the comparison between the lengths of the children’s shorts? I haven’t seen the photo, but it’s an innocuous-sounding image appropriate to the present hot weather.

There have been several threads on various media over the last few years about how hard it is to find shorts for girls that aren't really skimpy. Many parents resort to shopping in the boys' sector (not that they should really be separated anyway, in my opinion)

Maybe it’s a new thing that’s passed me by.

Oreo Thu 25-Jun-26 17:00:01

But never out and about in actual underwear.

Flippin2 Thu 25-Jun-26 16:48:08

Blimey were some of you never young?were you around in the 70s? hotpants?...mini skirts?

ArthurAskey Thu 25-Jun-26 16:22:54

Many parents are afraid to say NO to their little darlings.

Oreo Thu 25-Jun-26 16:22:39

Just back from shopping in a deliciously cool M&S and then a cold drink with loads of ice in a cool Costa.I was wearing a very loose cotton dress and sandals but most of the other women there seemed to have come out dressed only in their underwear, I kid you not.

Sago

The BBC don’t think but not do some parents, I was in Waitrose one Saturday morning and a man walked in with his daughter of about 12/13 in just a leotard.

And what was the daughter wearing 😲 Sorry Sago, couldn’t resist 😂

Girls are conditioned from a very early age to 'know' that as little clothing as possible and as tight as possible is what is 'right' for them. It needs to change and starts with adults wearing clothes that do not serve only to show body shape. i was 'cool' with it until I took up archery - then realised that most men could choose from stuff in ordinary shops but I had to really work to find stuff if for a day in the field.

Look around you , girls and women all wear next to nothing, bare midriff, bra tops, tights showing camels toe, etc I ha e even seen them showing stkockings and suspenders, think Little Mix, no one bats an eyelid, all modesty is gone

Hunros Thu 25-Jun-26 14:43:42

Exactly! And how many "perverted" women are reported each year? (and how many get away with it)

I think that is beginning to change. We are living in a different age. The kaleidoscope of our lives has turned a notch and at first, no-one noticed.

Eddieslass Thu 25-Jun-26 14:33:50

I too am surprised to see so many reporters and interviewees not wearing sunhats.

I would beg to differ. The photo did not show the child in full from the back alongside the other child from a distance, it was just of the schoolgirls bum in short shorts, with the hand in shot swinging a water bottle, and I mentioned the length of the shorts because why show the boy in longer looser fitting shorts and the girl in tighter fitting short shorts, is essential not to sexualise girls from an early age.
Of course is appropriate to show children in summer clothes but not appropriate to zoom in on a young girl’s bottom.
I might be making a fuss about nothing but is a fuss worth making imho.

Sago........you don't have to brand someone as a pervert because they are looking a young girls, that's natural male . I admire beautiful young men in a way that only an old woman can, that does'nt make me a pervert.
