To ask for your predictions for the timing of the next General Election

I think (or hope?) that Truss will make such an absolute horlicks of the job that the whole lot will come crashing down. I do wish that Starmer would man up though and give some leadership. We are in for a rough few months, but hopefully it will be the end of this selfish, venal group of people. On that basis, could be early spring 2023, but I predict that Truss will be finished, and disgraced by Christmas.

i think another leadership election spring 2023, followed bu Boris back as leader and then a GE because they truly believe he is their saviour.

Liz Truss does not have the support of the majority of Tory MPs so either a vote of no confidence or a GE, probably spring w023 when we have been through the a hard winter with strikes and cost of living.

I think that people are desperately afraid already. And there are increasing numbers of strikes planned for the autumn. The government is losing control and consent. I don't think that there would be any advantage to the tories in a pre Christmas election so they'll hang on.

I predict next spring.

If she had the Will, the queen has the Power to dissolve parliament and so force a GE- it seems clear that the govt is acting against the majority wishes of the nation and I think that is the constitutional criterion.
Won't happen of course so I think the tories will stagger on till 2024.

I’ve come back on today to clarity …..
It’s not that I don’t care,
I only see a Government who want a better Britain for them and not necessarily us.
That is why I’ve become disillusioned.
We don’t get to choose the next Party Leader after BJ , nor the date of the next GE.
I hope the GE is sooner than later.

How anyone can NOT care, when our country is facing such massive crises which will impact all our lives, and the most vulnerable the most- is beyond me, but 'whatever'!

I have no faith in Truss but I think she'll win .... and I agree with those who predict a GE in 2024 and by then the country will be desperate enough to vote for anyone ... but a Tory.

They've made a hash of it over the last 4 or 5 years IMO.

I also think late May 2023, I dread to think what state we will be in by then.

Swerving slightly, Truss has just pulled out of a one-to-one interview with Nick Robinson saying "she no longer had the time"

Those poll figures show clearly that if Labour agrees to clever and cooperative alliances, Tories will be destroyed for a long time. You can but hope.

I think the Tories will hang on until 2024 hoping that things will start to turn round (then they can take the credit for it).

I do think they're on a hiding to nothing, though, if they make a total hash of the next 18 months or so.

Johnson apparently supports Truss, because he thinks she will implode the lot within a year, and he can come storming back as leader.?

They won't rush towards a GE, because they know things are going to get worse, and they will be hammered at the ballot box.

If they can, they will hang on until 2024.

But, events can overtake.?

I think it will be further scandal around the cabinet or their handling of a previous event that will clinch the next election, Liz Truss has no sense at all and she will support something untenable. My prediction is it will be a Labour minority government next time.

This was my feeling too. She’s mis-spoken a few times - most notably by seemingly encouraging people to go and fight in Ukraine and receiving a rebuke from Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, along with a timely reminder that such acts are illegal. I think it’s only a matter of time before something crops up that she’ll make a hash of, and I think we can only hope that come a GE, people have long memories and put the Tories into well deserved long term opposition.
