What current day words drive you up the wall?

Me too Twiggy! What makes me cringe is the American pronunciations of 'moustache' and 'ice cream' where Americans put the accent on the first syllable.

I hate all the American-inspired phrases my DD36 has adopted since working for a multinational business.

I know 'absolutely'is a trendy word and is used carelessly. I am not annoyed by this because very few people comprehend the metaphysical meaning of the Absolute, and those who do so are not going to be confused by careless chatter.

Monica, a "lived" experience is contrasted with a vicarious experience as in stories or reportage.

'Literally' when they don't know what 'literally' means. I know words change in meanings, but when people use big words about abstract concepts without understanding they spread ignorance around many of the other people they talk to.

I cannot stand all of the trendy words mentioned above they are made to annoy and they do. I have a few words I use but can’t possibly repeat them as they are not in vogue or politically correct.

'Lived experience' How does it differ from simply having an 'experience'?
or is it as compared with a dead experience (what would that be?}

How can you not have been alive when you had an experience.

I just tested myself on the phonetic alphabet, and had forgotten at least 3 - Mike, Oscar and Papa (thank you Mr Google) and now I can’t remember the other 1 or 2.

An old post but having read it I had to contribute reading the word of instead of have, as in I should of. It literally makes my hair stand on end 🤣

I use the phonetic alphabet too, especially over the phone, but more often than not, face to face. Makes things easier.

Re the need to specify ‘haitch’ over the phone, I use the ‘airline’ alphabet (can’t recall its proper name) which I had to learn when working for one about 100 years ago. So it’d be ‘hotel’ . Dh and I invariably use it over the phone for our postcode - Juliet November etc. I still remember the call sign for one of the planes - Whisky Zulu.🙂

Misspellings in news articles...where are all the editors these days?

Women being referred to as Ms. or Mrs. even when single. Why not Miss. anymore?

I don't mind "this arvo", but then I'm in Australia, though not Australian.
"Showcase" as a verb.
"Gonna" when written, as it is on so many MN posts. You have to really think to write that, not a typo. What on earth makes such people think it sounds good?
"Passed". I always think of spiritualist associations, passing to the other side. Don't like it anyway, though would not voice this when others use it.

Especially now, ‘gifting’. Hate it! I don’t give gifts anyway, only presents.
