For me it is the root of the celery which we used to fight over, bacon rind (very hard to find), banana toffee which stuck to your teeth and blancmange/symington table creams. Ponds face cream, and Armani hair gel. The gel would be so thick sometimes it had to be washed out! Guess I’m giving my age away ?

Toffee1878
Same !
Took me WEEKS and numerous emails to Arm and Hammer to finally get the answer that with regret they’ve ceased manufacture - gutted !

Yammy

Eau de Givenchy perfume and Astral toilet soap.
Rhubarb and custard sweets and Midget gems the tiny really hard ones that made a lump and nearly choked you.

Yammy I mentioned Eau de Givenchy up thread!
It was gorgeous wasn’t it?! So fresh and sparkly. God knows why they stopped making itsad

The last bottle I managed to get was about 10 years ago, I wore it for my BIL wedding and everyone wanted to know what it was. My other favourite was Dior Eau svelte and they stopped that about 5 years ago both were so light and zingysad to.

Loved loganberries. I can still smell them in my mind now. And Angelica which you never see any longer.

My great aunt was married to a founder of Maconochie’s pickles and it was the first of her (two) married names.

We grow loganberries but they weren't very good last year. I managed to freeze about three small plastic boxes full.

glammagran Tue 25-Jan-22 22:32:49

Callistemon I wasn’t aware you could grow them now. My mum used to make loganberry pies which I loved. Can you grow them in a container (we have very poor soil)?

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jan-22 22:38:36

Ours are in the ground, glammagran, they have been in for a few years and used to produce a lot of delicious fruit. DH has pruned them properly and the ground has been manured but last year they were very poor.
They probably need replacing now.
I'm not sure about growing them in pots

I remember that my Mum used to buy tins of loganberries.

The last lot went into the Christmas trifle with raspberries ?

Lexisgranny Tue 25-Jan-22 22:55:33

Batger’s Chinese Figs, which only seemed to be around at Christmas, when I stocked up on them.

Can’t say I actually miss it, but I do remember how glamorous it seemed to bathe in ‘fabulous pink Camay’, though sadly I fear it did not make me ‘look a little lovelier each day’!!!!!!

Old Jamaica still makes me dribble. blush
I can't decide if I like it or not.

starshine Wed 26-Jan-22 07:10:23

Loving this thread! Favourite scents of mine were Midnight by Dorothy Gray (wish I could find something similar!), Moondrops by Revlon, Avon Sweet Honesty, Yardley Sea Jade and Serenity by Ghost. Also loved the smell of original Lux soap as a child. It probably doesn't smell the same now.

I miss Royal Scott biscuits . I used to love them

Secondwind Wed 26-Jan-22 08:01:16

So many memories reading this!

Pretty Peach perfume cream from Avon, in its yellow glass pot and lid with peaches on.

Ambergris - a perfume around in the 70s.

The ‘ethery’ Victory Vs.

Yesterday’s ‘stale’ cakes sold surreptitiously in bakeries from under the counter!

GillT57 Wed 26-Jan-22 16:13:32

Secondwind, Pretty Peach by Avon was their 'young miss' range, and a friend of my Mother used to buy it for me at Christmas, I felt so sophisticated! Royal Scot biscuits were a favourite, when we were very small, Mum used to sandwich two together with icing and then put sprinkles/hundred and thousands on the top one, iced too. Delicious!

Merrymaid Caramels
Fidji perfume

Socksandsocks01 Wed 26-Jan-22 23:46:27

Beechnut chickletts where chewing gum. Never seen in years. Big jars if Paynes fruit poppets. Chocolate peanut brittle also sold by the quarter. And the best of all loose sweets Terry's Russian Caramels. Rock hard covered in thick dark chocolate. Divine. I miss scented talcum powder. But I miss politeness and courtesy. Drivers were courteous to òthers and rougues were shunned. Now its the honest folk that are treated with mistrust.

Oxo cubes as they used to be, I would eat them instead of eating sweets.

MissAdventure Thu 27-Jan-22 17:23:36

My nan would put the last little bit of the oxo cube in my mouth when she was crumbling one for gravy. smile
Lovely!
