Perhaps there isn't space for it in the house? Older kitchens weren't designed for all the appliances modern housewives find essential, and not everyone has a utility room as well as a kitchen.

Please tell me, why would you want the dryer in the garage and not in the heated house?

If the thing is so unsafe that a fireman told you not to have it indoors, there is something very wrong.

It is a desiccant type and as well as decreasing moisture gives out heat.

I have a little ceramic heater that you can adjust the heat setting on from just above freezing on frost stat to very warm.

BTW lots of items don’t work below 10C. I wanted a dehumidifier for my garage but ordinary ones don’t work at that temperature so I had to get a more expensive one

Just an idea which I have never tried but if your garage is not damp do you have an old duvet you could cover it with when not in use? We had to be very careful when buying a chest freezer as it was going in an outside shed. The shed where it is kept is damp so I leave a towel on top and every few days have to tumble dry it but this is just a small inconvenience.

We had this problem when bought tumble dryer for our garage, it didn’t last that long, at the time I didn’t even realise that there would be a problem with the cold! So once we replaced after looking online to see which would be ok no further probs, also have a lovely upright freezer beko frost free freezer in there too, no probs with either,

Our auntie passed away and I gave all of her possessions away to charity etc. Except for a freezer she only recently bought it I thought it would be good as a backup. But it didn’t work in our garage so I had to give away so very annoying.

It broke down and she too was told the garage is too cold for it .I know loads of people who have machines in the garage with no problems arising,but i shall advice them of the possability.

There are very few fridges or freezers that will work in a garage.

The only brand I am aware of is Beko who advertise the fact that most of their range are suitable for outbuildings and garages etc., with their unique Freezerguard technology which allows the appliance to work in ambient temperatures of -15 degrees. Would be highly unusual for a garage to get this cold.

Most other manufacturers fridge/freezers will not work much below an ambient temperature of 10 degrees which would rule out a garage.

Sorry should read lower than -2, it was -4 the other day, my small freezer is for Garage use.

nanna it often reaches -2 here, I think OP means Centigrade not Fahrenheit.
Most appliances are only guaranteed for temps over 10 degrees C. Nowadays.

Below 10 ? That’s cold. You must be very far north. I don’t think I have ever experienced that.

Elegran Sorry but it's years since I used a greenhouse heater, so can't be specific about the heat output. Going slightly off subject I successfully used our paraffin greenhouse heater to warm the greenhouse one winter. Our very old cat was coming to the end of his life and had become incontinent. Keeping him in the kitchen at night was no longer possible as he wasn't using the litter tray. So I decided to put his bed in the greenhouse at our bedtime, having lit the heater an hour or so earlier. Ru, the cat could go outside when he needed. He was very cosy and happy with this arrangement and lived til the following autumn.
I see that there are some energy saving electric greenhouse heaters online, as well as paraffin types.

midgey Our dryer isn’t in the garage. We keep cars, motorcycles, cycles and sporting equipment in there, in addition to the freezer. No need to take umbrage.

When you buy a new freezer or dryer there is a symbol that tells if it is suitable for use in a garage.

I'm wondering if a greenhouse heater would give sufficient heat to solve the problem. They are cheap to run.

It is possible that a strategically placed lightbulb could provide enough heat to keep it happy.

Cagney I have found this problem on my dryer, it is so annoying! I am not prepared to turn on a heater for a blooming dryer!

Our garage has an anti frost heater to stop it getting too cold.
