Have finally lots it’s way. Had a look at their latest offerings and although they have some quite nice dresses they are no good for the majority of its customers as they are either too short, too young, narrow size range and just not what most of its customers want. They only go up to size range 18 which have already sold out, and most women (unless much younger) prefer skirts to be below the knee and to have sleeves, not to mention waisted dresses to be on the waist not just below the bust!

I will be shopping elsewhere from now on. I used to wear virtually from marks. What a shame.

Looking through their online selection of dresses, I've noticed that interest free monthly payments are now available for their Nobody's Child range. But as they all seem to have puffy sleeves, busy patterns, frills and deep slashes up to the thigh, I can't see me being enticed.

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Oct-20 12:29:43

Chewy, that's the first time I've seen NC.
Not impressed. The sleeves are awful.
I've got broad shoulders to start with, I'd look like Henry VIII.
And the patterns. Bleurgh.

maw, I love Kettlewell and have a few of their shirts but I liked the M&S ones as they were so cheap (I know!!) I love Sea Salt too but their colours are a bit earthy for me.

I've just bought a lovely plain sweatshirt from Joules and spilled tea down it!!!

I'll look at cotton traders anno., thank you.

Bixiboo Sun 04-Oct-20 21:26:33

I love Kettlewell & they’ve got 15% off until 11th October. (use code KCFIG) They are a bit more expensive but at least you can get some lovely colours.

Dustyhen2010 Sun 04-Oct-20 21:39:39

I used to get a lot from M&S but I too have moved to Seasalt, White Stuff etc.

*kittylester*, I much prefer Cotton Traders tops to M&S. The fabric, fir and colour variety are far better. I can't see any long sleeved tops in the most recent catalogue through my letter box though there are plenty of 3/4 sleeves. You might find more on line.

There are some long sleeved tops in the new Cotton Traders catalogue, I was browsing it last night and saw quite a few tunics and blouses with long sleeves - but i prefer 3/4 length as I get too hot in long sleeves!

I have given up on all M&S knitwear. One wash on a low temp wool wash and they end up like rags. I now buy from wool overs and am pleased with the quality. I do like their jeggings as they fit well. I still buy their underwear but the pants are really poor quality and end up thin very quickly. The thongs I bought my daughter fell apart after a couple of washes as the stitching unravelled.

I too, am buying better quality items and wear them until they fall apart. Yes, White Stuff and Seasalt clothes are good.

OH and I both like her in M&S undies. They have a wider range than many of their competitors, to suit almost every taste.
Outerwear is usually good quality, so we visit when she is in the market for something new.

alchemilla Mon 05-Oct-20 19:40:43

Still going for their jeggings, the odd jumper and some of their shoes and boots. Some of their coats are good quality. Children's party clothes are pretty.

But like other people on here - why do they do flashy embroidered lilac twinsets? I can get them cheaper in the local market if I wanted them.

And who chooses the colours? Their blues are dreadful. Their cashmere is reasonable but again mostly dreadful colours with no subtlety.

I really don't know which market they're going for, and I suspect they don't know either. They need to sort that out.

They also need to realize that every age group wants good quality basics from pants to Tshirts and jumpers. I don't think they should try for every size but most online.

Thank you to the posters who mentioned Kettlewell. They look good quality and ethical too.

My sentiment entirely Alishka!

Looking for ladies comfy warm winter nightshirts, to tuck my legs and feet up into, with long sleeves. No such luck most M&S so short hardly cover the rear. Hate PJs - twisting around the legs during night turnovers. And what horrible colours. Whatever happened to femininity!

I have said more than once, M&S designers and fabric manufacturers must be colour blind or suffering from severe depression. Its colours and designs remind one of Chairman Mao's communist China.

Witzend Fri 09-Oct-20 21:53:22

I bought a coat there last week - a padded one in a nice bright mustard colour. I loathe all the drab browns and blacks that so many people stick to in winter.

Mollygran Fri 09-Oct-20 22:00:12

I had an email showing the Nobody’s Child range today - not my style at all - lots of frills and flounces!

Callistemon Fri 09-Oct-20 22:10:26

Nobody's Child?
Who are they trying to appeal to?

Chewbacca Fri 09-Oct-20 22:47:12

Nobody Callistemon so they've named it well, havent they! It's an absolutely dire range of clothes.

Grannynannywanny Fri 09-Oct-20 22:51:54

“Nobody’s Child” evokes memories of a song played/sung in the early 60’s. It reduced my Gran and several aunties to tears every time. ...

I buy most of my trousers and jeans fron M&S but i agree the short aren't short anymore, and i was also told they are made longer to wear with heels,
Also made in Bangladesh though which puts me off a bit,as i doubt the prices M&Sbuy them at are very high so must be making a good profit i guess

I see what you mean, Chewbacca

I wouldn't wear anything like that, not even when I was younger and I don't think it would appeal to younger members of my family either.
Awful.

TwiceAsNice Fri 09-Oct-20 23:48:37

Sorry Poppyred just came back on here and re-read I think you guessed I meant frumpy. Phone keeps altering what I mean!

Re Bangladesh - M&S were among the few companies that behaved ethically and honoured their orders and paid properly during the lockdown. I believe that only M&S and John Lewis did.

MiniMoon Sat 10-Oct-20 09:33:55

I had a look round our local M&S and saw only one jumper that I quite liked.

I bought a rugby shirt from them online and collected it at the store. It's for my grandson's birthday at the end of the month.

A few weeks ago I bought a stunning Per Una maxi dress in an abstract red and blue pattern The snag? I found it in a charity shop and it's obviously several years old. Haven't seen anything as good in the shop for a long time.

They still have too many ranges and have no idea what market they are aiming at.

DD buys school trousers for GS1 because they are the only ones that fit his long legs and scrawny body. I buy underwear there (in the sales!) I mainly wear jeans and long tops in the winter and I've found TU jeans from Sainsbury fit me better than M&S and TK Maxx is my go to for tops as I can find really unusual ones very cheaply.

Millie22 Sat 10-Oct-20 10:19:32

I used to have a few things from the 'per una' range but there's nothing now worth buying all terrible. I only buy underwear but even that is getting worse. They needed a shake up before coronavirus so goodness knows how they keep going.

kircubbin2000 Sat 10-Oct-20 11:05:14

I got pants from Sainsburys last time and they are a much better shape and quality. The Marks ones were baggy and
loose.
