Anyone else starting to notice that many TV presenters and news readers are still looking immaculate, with lovely makeup and hair done to perfection? I know of at least two newsreaders who recently admitted to being grey and yet not a sign of roots on display. I've no axe to grind, I'm a silver vixen but it does annoy me that some of us are not playing fair. Or am I just getting fed up with it all?

Maybe she’s doing her own box dye over the kitchen sink with her rubber gloves on. Just like Davina McCall does with the one she advertises - NOT!
Thank you Urmstongran, you're very kind. I've just added a bit more to the "package" and like you, have done my nails (hands and feet). I'm not making any trips to a salon of any sort until we're well and truly out of the woods with all this.
Nico97 you look amazing!
GG13 I’m with you. I won’t be going to ANY salon (hair or nails) even when ‘allowed’. I’ll manage. Cut my nails, put clear varnish on. I’ve been applying Clarins nail & hand cream to my toenails after my shower and they look healthy and well nourished, not dried out at all. Hair? I’ll wear a hair band.
?
Well sorry some should be all didn’t word that correctly. I’ve been putting mine up in a ponytail but bits don’t quite fit in it though.
I worry about some salons, are they really going to have to close for six months due to their risk? It’s to know what to believe at the moment, some work hard to build up their business too,
Grateful I decided to stop all the coloured highlights and went for silver to match my roots. No problem with colouring now. I do have two aerosols of Loreal medium blonde root spray going spare if anyone desperate!
I knew I should have got DH to retrain as a hairdresser!
Are you sure these well groomed people on TV don't have a husband or wife who is good at cutting hair.
I know make-up artists are employed by TV, but most women can make up perfectly by themselves.

Alex on the 'one show' admitted the other week that she wasn't as groomed because she was having to do her own hair and makeup. She actually looked fine. I think a lot of the are doing their own
Have been home colouring and cutting my hair for the last 20 years. Nice n easy dark blonde every 12/13 weeks. Nice n easy dark blonde root touch up every 2/3 weeks. Its’s the simplest thing in world, works extremely well and costs peanuts compared to hairdresser prices. I started after a disastrous hairdresser experience and have never looked back.
Cutting is pretty straightforward too. My hair is shoulder length . I comb it all forward into a front ponytail and snip a straight line across. This produces natural layers. I get my OH to check that the back is reasonably even. My hair is slightly curly / wavy - which I think helps. Superdrug do the same two colour packs but I find their “dark blonde” slightly lighter.
Put a coloured spray on the roots till the hairdressers are open. Chemical colours can be a bit dodgy. You can cut your own hair with instructions from Youtube. I did mine and it looks great.
Annepl is that Worthington of the Red Barrel Beer?
My mother always swore that the best shampoo was a bottle of Guinness - you didn’t wash your hair in it mind, you drank it and didn’t give a hoot how your hair looked !!!
I used to laugh when my dad went to the barbers and asked for a three month haircut - I guess it was to save money in them olden days! I am laughing at me now as I had about 8 inches taken off my long gray hair just before lockdown. So I guess I have the three month haircut now! For anyone wishing to embrace the gray this is the perfect time to do it. I did so several years ago and am so glad I no longer fuss with roots and colouring.
I have a short pixie style and have always cut my fringe and used to cut the children's hair when they were little.
The best thing I bought recently on line was a thinning scissors. I watched a few videos and had a go on myself, I think I did a pretty good job.
I know what you mean about looking in a mirror and missing the cut completely - that takes a bit of practice.
I have cut my own for years. I started by cutting DH's, with a Phillips hair clipper that went up to a 42mm setting. Then I got fed up with getting cuts from professionals that were nowhere near what I had asked for, so I tried on my own hair - and since then have never paid a hair dresser for at least 30 years. The original clipper wore out (in mid-cut!) so I had to buy another, but Phillips still make one (the 9000 series) that goes up to 42mm - as far as I can tell it is the only one on the market.
In fact, I suspect it cuts my hair longer than that - maybe 50mm, which is about two inches. I avoid cutting the front where it frames my face, and trim this a bit longer with scissors. There are interchangeable combs which guide the hair into the cutters, and feed it in at the appropriate length, so there is no chance of getting a "baldy" by mistake! This made it possible for me to allow DH to cut the back, where I couldn't see whether I had caught all of it. I wouldn't have trusted him with scissors! Nowadays I have to do that myself (or ask a passing daughter or female friend) but I have evolved an effective technique - which I will detail later if anyone would like to know it. The instruction leaflet rather glosses over that part.
Aepgirl Nicola very much recognised it wasn’t important and did make that clear in her interview, but she recognised it was a lighter moment that is also needed at this time. Not often I agree with the woman but I did here.
One of our local female presenters on tv did look a bit worse for wear last night and I could see a faint moustache! Poor woman, she's obviously not used to looking after the essentials herself.
My hair has grown so much I'm sure I will be mistaken by a stray bird soon thinking it is his home. I have managed to cut my fringe, which wasn't too bad. I watched YouTube and cut upwards at an angle. Hope hairdressers are one of the first businesses to reopen - then we probably won't get an appointment for weeks/months!
How nice it would be if we all had our hairdressers giving us online tutoring. I think Nicola Sturgeon should realise that the appearance of our hair is not the most important thing at the moment.
I bought some thinning scissors, recommended by my hairdresser as my hair is so thick,it is shortish so managed to do it ok,In fact it was lot easier then I thought it would be.
Ok I did get carried away a bit and it’s a tad shorter then normal.
I then coloured it myself.
Im so lucky my daughter lives with me and is a hairdresser, im highlighted and trimmed to perfection
Those of you who have said their hair is going grey cos no Hairdresser to colour it, can get dye online, no prob, Nice and Easy is as it says on box, easy to do. If me at 85 can do it, you young ones can!
Right from the start, I felt people in the public eye would get their hair done.
It must be difficult for women with especially styled hairstyles which need regular maintenance. My hair will only need the fringe trimmed and I can manage that myself.
If there's a partial relaxation of the rules and shops and businesses start opening, maybe they'll let you get your hair done if you just have a dry trim and wear a mask??
