Being a very poor region I don't think they are at all popular in the North East. A place that they probably hardly know exists. Poor people struggling to feed their families and make ends meet don't relate to this bunch of obscenely rich hypocrites. Imagine being on the breadline and knowing that your hard earned taxes are going towards keeping them lot in the manner to which they are accustomed? Its rotten to the core.

I so agree OldMeg, but I do not believe her story that she was devastated when he told her he was having an affair, he dated her sister before her, she holidayed at Balmoral, she was part of the royal inner circle.

I am no fan of the RF but I think they are behaving like many people who have a sense of entitlement and infact many ordinary folk too. The only difference is that they have their private affairs raked over for the prurience of the population. Perhaps they should have better moral standards, but they are human like the rest of us. Here am I a Republican defending them no not really!

I very much doubt she was in ignorance of his mistress when she married. It was common knowledge, especially in the circles they both moved within. She probably thought it was all over, and when she found it wasn’t her conduct was just as bad, or worse.

Who goes on national TV and admits to her own adultry? And why? Revenge? How on earth must William and a Harry feel if they ever watched that nauseating interview?

I think Prince Charles married her hoping that love would grow. He was under tremendous pressure to get married and, in those days, he could only marry someone 'suitable'. She thought she was in love with him and was also ambitious and wanted to be Princess of Wales.

It was a complete mismatch but i do believe he tried, at least initially, to make the marriage work.

I think it depends on who the sample were in Scotland,remember that over three quarters of a million voters in Scotland are English by birth.I know that from the people I know and meet on a regular basis the English born Scots are far more likely to support the monarchy even some who are English born Scots for Independence who campaign for the cause and are vocal about ditching Westminster still want a queen .

My impression of both Charles and Diana is that they were damaged individuals. Charles perhaps has had some therapy.

Perhaps a proper discussion about monarchy -v- republicanism could be of value but it would have to be in the style of Lazigirl's earlier post and not on the grounds of envy and jealousy. Those visceral feelings of hatred have no place in reasoned debate.

There will always be 'haves' and 'have nots' and no amount of social engineering or the very best Welfare State will ever change that.

paddann I think a lot of people have said that about Anne, however, I do think that Charles has done a lot more than many people realise to help the under-privileged or those who need a helping hand to get on the right path in life, eg The Prince's Trust etc.
