Actually I don't think people are really being aggressive. I think it's probably for emphasis as they don't know how to do bold. As I didn't.

I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO ITALICS OR BOLD OR UNDERLINE ON THIS FORUM. IF SOMEONE COULD TELL ME I COULD GIVE UP SHOUTING

Scroll down past Preview Message and Post Message and directly underneath are the instructions for how to do emoticons and bold/underline/italics/strikethrough.

On my phone at the bottom of the thread below where you write your comment and an ad there are 3 symbols, a smiley face for emoticons, an I in italics (ie sloping) and a paper clip sign (for attachments?) If you click on the I you get a drop down menu with further options. I only discovered this yeasterday and Ive been using GN for 3 years!
