Of all the posters on Gransnet who might have bought a shewee, Mishap would not have been top of my list.

Has anyone ever used one successfully?

Nonu You and me both! I have been camping quite a few times and absolutely hated it. Anything that flies bites me, and the horror of trekking to the toilet block... aaarrgghh!!

On a lighter note, my son, his wife and two young children go camping a lot and absolutely love it. We visit for a few days, but stay in an hotel where all of my creature comforts are available.

You might have enjoyed camping more, noodles, if you'd invested in a shewee...!

Always worried about a car driving over the tent. Used a Nescafe jar once. Y'know, never thought of using a bucket [probably wasn't mentioned to me when I was in the guides, but then they didn't mention Nescafe jars either].

FlicketyB, you're right about targetted ads; I looked up a hotel on Google and later got the same hotel mentioned on the banner at the top of the GN page. Geraldine, I didn't book the hotel and am not likely to go to that very small town, so please don't bother.

As for Amazon, I unsubscribed from their irritating emails on the understanding that I would still get the confirmation of order ones. However, as I am currently boycotting them as they don't pay enough tax, I don't know if I would still get those ones.

Has it really got anything to do with Geraldine? I think the ads can be fun, and Gransnet needs them.

Flickety and others. It is nothing to do with Gransnet that you get these ads linked to what you have mentioned, so don't blame Geraldine. Everything you put on here is open to all the search engines. Google tailor their ads according to any interest you show. You can opt out of that if you choose.

The banner at the top is added by Gransnet but they do not control the ads. That is done via Adsense.

I have only found the banner ads on Gransnet to be relevant to what has been said on Gransnet. Probably because they are Google ones. (?) Not like the ads that appear everywhere else and, it seems, are down to a different sort of cookie. Bit ing really.

Probably the banner ads are through Google. I know that anyone with a website can get Adsense to show ads relevant to the page so I assume that Gransnet has done this. But I repeat, the choice is from Google, so I don't think that Geraldine or anyone else has any say.

I still think that the logic behind the choice for the adverts, however it is done, is poor. Just because I have bought a wardrobe it doesn't follow that I am interested in buying further wardrobes. It would be more sense to show me adverts for coat hangers, carpets and decorating materials on the basis that I may be refurbishing a room and that I am known to have bought curtain fabric and curtain rails online before. if I buy a book I do not have an immediate or any interest in buying the same book in different editions bindings or other languages but an analysis that most books I buy are second hand and most were published before 1950 might enable them to suggest second hand book shops near me or specialist book sellers I may be interested in

I think the logic behind the algorithms drawn up by Google and their like to show people adverts for things they think they might be interested in based on the last thing they bought online, is so pointless that they might as well not bother.

And as for the idea I would even look at anything headed 'people who bought x book also bought........'. or be 'inspired' to buy a second wardrobe having just bought one, well, words fail me.
