is it necessary to use 4 letter words on this forum?

I find it quite sad if that is the case. It looks so harsh in print.

We all swear more I think nowadays but still do not like it, expect I am old fashioned.

gracesmum Actually I believe it did crop up once or twice on Montalbano I'm sure Ingrid said it when she jumped out of the car in the first one grin

MargaretXI very rarely use a 4-letter word - perhaps when I'm driving on my own or when I stub my toe on my way to the loo in the small hours - but NEVER in the presence of my GC, even the adult one. The point is that you can't assume that J04 will use the same vocabulary with her GC as she used in the heat of the moment on these forums. I am sure she doesn't.

wow this thread has gone 9 pages, well done celeb, I think that swearing or cursing is a personal thing, to some people it is just how they speak and usually dont mean to offend anyone and others do find it very offensive, me I just take you as I find you and would not think any less of you if you did curse. There is one word though that I do truly hate and absolutley do get offeneded by is the C word, I dont know why I just think its a step too far, but then thats just my opinion.

MargaretX Thu 31-Jan-13 11:29:33

Mey that is just the point. The F-word is a step too far for me and in our family it is not used and definitely not written. I got upset when it was said that those who object to swearing are stuffed shirts.

If they didn't mean to offend anyone then why swear at all?

j07 Thu 31-Jan-13 11:37:07

MargaretX I apologise deeply and profoundly for calling you a stuffed shirt.

j07 Thu 31-Jan-13 11:38:24

I am not totally and completely foul mouthed in real life. grin I swear I'm not!!!

Jings ...remember we're out on bail. The keeper of the keys at the Tower is browsing this thread. shock

j07 Thu 31-Jan-13 11:47:13

Do you mean Geraldine?! shock [shiver and shake]

soop Thu 31-Jan-13 11:56:36

To be fair, Geraldine and all the HQ "top brass" were most sympathetic to our plight. I had to grovel for many long hours before they agreed to delete the thread. So...yet again...many thanks for treating us with the respect we deserve smile

annodomini Thu 31-Jan-13 12:03:55

Mey, I agree with you about the 'c' word. It would never pass my lips. I have the impression it is used far more by men than by women which makes it all the more offensive.

j07 Thu 31-Jan-13 12:05:31

It did turn out quite funny soop. Bit of a shame it was deleted. grin

j07 Thu 31-Jan-13 12:06:31

Geraldine's alright really. smile

#stampofapproval

j07 Thu 31-Jan-13 12:07:11

I wouldn't use that word. Never.

soop Thu 31-Jan-13 12:07:53

My PM file is bursting with ..."wish I'd read it messages." blush

Mey Thu 31-Jan-13 12:09:40

Margaret I appreciate were you are coming from and I understand that you find it offensive.

You must undertsand that people just talk that way sometimes and really really dont mean to offend, as it is just normal for them to say the F word in normal conversation.

I dont think you are a stuffed shirt and I am SURE that jo7 was just joking with you, this is what she does, she is just a very cheerful funny person, please read a few of her threads. Please dont take offence.

soop did you notice that HQ deleted the bit were you said "we deserve"
do you think they r trying to say something!!

soop Thu 31-Jan-13 12:25:24

Mey ...I deleted that bit. Sort of tongue in cheek wink
If you go to Emphasis below Post Message you'll find Strikethrough smile

I just noticed that the Gnet children's book of the month is

Fluff the Farting Fish.

I was quite shocked at the F word.

petallus Sun 10-Feb-13 22:49:18

I'm sure I wouldn't use that word in front of my grandchildren.

ginny Sun 10-Feb-13 22:57:27

Not a pleasant sounding word. The Oxford dictionary describes it as it 'coarse slang'. just about sums it up.

j08 Sun 10-Feb-13 23:01:05

More to the point, do you ever fart in front of your grandchildren? smile

petallus Sun 10-Feb-13 23:02:11

I've never farted in my life , thank you j08

j08 Sun 10-Feb-13 23:13:13

Flip me!!! What's your secret? Have you got really strong butt cheek muscles?

(Respect!)

j08 Sun 10-Feb-13 23:14:53

You are sooo lucky! envy
