Well I am an addict and proud of it! Love it all even the boring bits and now love Ambridge Extra.......I believe I am not alone either????

I found Shula was always an irritating too good to be true woman.

Very precious, no sense of humour. Look how she behaved when the vicar Alan married Usha who was a Hindu. Shula had previously pinched Usha's boyfriend from her. He was the GP and Shula fell for him when Daniel was ill.
Shula was too earnest for my liking and had always tried to steer poor Daniel into being a solicitor like his father and grandfather. I am glad he had the spirit to rebel.

I think both the Archer "girls" are a bit too good to be true I have been listening long enough to remember that both of them were a right pain when they were growing up and when they were younger women. But now they seem to have morphed into terrific business woman, supportive daughters , wonderful mothers ,domestic goddesses and overall good solid and somewhat boring members of their local community. Give me Lillian any time at least she hasn't changed that much.

Iam64 Wed 07-May-14 18:41:02

Nelliemoser, yes, Go Daniel.

I agree chloe - I enjoy Lillian. I like the way the Archers teens on the Archers often go a bit off piste, before usually morphing into the good folks they were always intended to be. So reassuring when teens in your own family are driving everyone frantic.

Rob is a dark character, and weren't we all shouting to Helen to use some sense for once. I do hope things get a bit less dark for Pat and Tony….

chloe1984 Wed 07-May-14 19:17:05

I am waiting with bated breath for the Rob character to develop but agree that surely Pat and Tony have suffered enough. Where is Jim whilst Dan is going off to join the army can't believe he wouldn't have an opinion on it all. I would like to see Jazzer settle down and have a couple of children that would create some havoc for the residents as they got older.

Penstemmon Wed 07-May-14 19:58:23

I really think Rob is a true baddie! Either a sham to get control of Henry or the farm!

chloe1984 Thu 08-May-14 08:34:32

Perhaps Helen will see the error of her ways and leave him and go and live with Adam and Ian, Rob will then make a play for Jennifer as she must be worth more money ,he will then take over the empire that is Brian's who will then have to eke out a living as a mature ladies escort .....as he has had a lot of practise in that department. Just everyday story of country folk really.

I used to be an addict, but its just not the same anymore. Just another soap. Reincarnate Walter Gabriel, son Nelson and dear old Nigel.

Nelliemoser Thu 08-May-14 09:18:26

chloe Now I like that scenario! grin

Lilygran Thu 08-May-14 09:59:10

Perhaps the BBC will start taking notice of what its audience wants after the Jamaica Inn fiasco but I doubt it. Instead of consolidating the audience base by giving it what it wants, they are always looking to attract a different group from the one that already likes the programme. By CHANGING everything. Duh!

grumppa Sat 26-Jul-14 07:34:04

AIBU to expect BBC news reporters to be able to pronounce Tregorran correctly? Radio 4 News at 0700 today featured the return of Carol, played by Eleanor Bron, but referred to her and the freshly buried John as TregAWran.

shysal Sat 26-Jul-14 07:46:02

This has got me thinking, I can't say I really like any of the characters! I still enjoy the programme though, and hope to be listening for the rest of my days.
Was Carol played by Eleanor Bron originally?

chloe1984 Sat 26-Jul-14 08:34:51

I agree with you shysal I don't find myself liking many of the characters anymore. Will keep listening if only to find out what Rob is up to and if Roy will continue to act like a spoilt child so that's him and Lizzie together then!

Soutra Sat 26-Jul-14 08:59:24

Can somebody fill me in please on the history between Carol Tregorran and Jennifer? And how soon before Helen finds out Rob never even invited his parents to dinner?

suebailey1 Sat 26-Jul-14 09:33:37

Sad isn't it if all the scriptwriters have to write is a long dead bit of hanky panky- I suppose Jennifer has got to have something to agonise about now the kitchen is done.

suebailey1 Sat 26-Jul-14 09:38:52

DH reminded me that Elenor Bron played Carol Tregorran.

grumppa Sat 26-Jul-14 10:54:55

According to BBC news release Carol was originally played by Anne Cullen, sixty years ago. Did Bron play her in a couple of episodes in the early 2000s?

Mishap Sat 26-Jul-14 11:07:13

So Roy has thrown his toys out of the pram - what will he live on if he leaves? Hayley is going to be pretty miffed.

sparkygran Sat 26-Jul-14 13:57:11

Feel the scriptwriters have run out of ideas bringing back Carol Tregorran however what if she decides to move back into Ambridge she could rent Jill`s Rose Cottage which seems to have been forgotten about since her move back to Brookfield? Then perhaps there would be scope for a Carol vs Jennifer scenario - give Jen something to worry about for a change instead of new kitchens or decorating.

Nelliemoser Sun 27-Jul-14 08:58:34

Soutra I think when Jennifer and John Tregorran were collaborating on historical book about Ambridge they became very close when Carol Tregorran was away working. There was a lot of of suspicion that there was collaboration in bed as well. I think this was probably in the early 1970.

My copy of "The Book of the Archers" a charity shop find, gives a who is/was who up to 1994.

"They quickly became infatuated with one another and when Carol came home found that Jennifer had taken over her kitchen she saw red!"

After this John Tregorran moved abroad. Whether any adultery went on we do not know.
A useful book this. smile

suebailey1 Sun 27-Jul-14 09:21:00

Yes Eleanor Bron is coming back as Carol - it was in The Telegraph yesterday.

NanKate Sun 07-Sept-14 21:51:08

Just caught up with the Archers after a few months absence only to find that Roy and Elizabeth are having a fling and Rob is sleeping with his ex-wife, what next will we have to titillate our senses. Perhaps Linda will have a sex change and Jill become a pole dancer - I can hardly wait. grin

sparkygran Mon 08-Sept-14 12:02:18

It`s good at the moment isn`t it winkgrin

NanKate Mon 08-Sept-14 22:02:13

Yes Sparkygran I think I will start listening again.

Lilygran Tue 09-Sept-14 19:46:33

Thinking of the way accents persist, what's happened to Rory? I can't remember how it's spelled.

Iam64 Tue 09-Sept-14 20:48:10

He's away at boarding school
