Sweet Ratings for the BBC?

Love GBBO, but it makes me salivate after the wonderful offerings they produce which isn't good for me at the moment. I'm trying to shift a few pounds and bread and cakes just aren't conducive to my eating regime.

I feel like a failed grandmother anyway in that I can't make cakes [or knit]; now going to feel guilty that I can't make sweets .

We lived in Malta during the early fifties and as a seven year old I was forbidden to buy sweets from the local shops because of the worry of dysentery. My lovely dad used to make toffee and barley sugar every Saturday afternoon which was supposed to last the week but as word got round there would be a queue of kids up the stairs leading to our flat.

I'll always remember him pulling shapes with barley sugar and entertaining us by hopping around the kitchen shouting,'OOOH AAAAH, It's HOT'

Tegan maybe if you watch the programme you could learn My DGD came here this week for 2 days and we spent the whole of the time baking cakes. I am not very good, but we have a go and she loves decorating them.

Home-made cakes, biscuits and sweets are scrumptious and taste so much nicer than shop bought.

There's nothing wrong with children eating a few sweet things - it's eating them excessively that brings about the problems and without parental restriction, they'll do that regardless of whether there is a tv programme about how to make sweets.
