Astounding cleaning products

Zoflora disinfectant is brilliant for washing floors, there's a range of scents - I like the Bouquet one.

Smells much nicer than Dettol too.

You can by a spray-on opaque covering too Charleygirl. We used it to cover the glass in our front door because I hated seeing someone peering through it - it was even worse at night!

Pusser's Rum used to work well on jewellery too, although if DH caught me he wasn't impressed ...

I have half a bottle of Star Drops in the cupboard under my sink, Daisy. I must have bought it at least a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed - can't find it on any of the supermarket websites now!

roses Gin! seriously, my Mum didn't wear much jewellery but always put her diamond and platinum engagement ring in a eggcup of gin. I've used it in the past with gold and now do my silver earrings that I wear all the time. Sterilises 'em before I put them back in too.
I suppose any white spirit would do but don't know for sure. The jewellery only needs covering and then leave it for an hour or so where NO ONE can throw it away by mistake.

What is it? I have never heard of it and I thought that I was aware of all cleaning products known to man.

What happened to Star Drops? Haven't seen it in the shops for some time.

stillhere the minor problem is that I do not have a bath. That sounds a good idea though using gloves.

You can clean the worst off venetian blinds wearing woollen gloves. Just pop your gloved hand in a strong solution of washing up liquid and run your fingers through and along the slats. It's not as good as immersing the blinds in the bath, though and you need a towel under the blind to catch all the drips.

At least the sticky or non sticky stuff will be cheaper than buying a new blind, especially having just shelled out to have most of my windows replaced, the purse is a tad empty.

Spray carpet indents with water and leave overnight. Has always worked for me.

FarNorth thanks for that. I had been googling eg Homebase and Wickes which had never heard of it. My addled brain totally forgot about my old friend Amazon and I have found plenty there to think about. I may go for the non stick variety because I can see the sticky back stuff sticking to everything but the window.

White vinegar for loos. Even if it's a yucky brown colour, it's actually limescale (stained with bile pigments from your poo) and the vinegar dissolves the calcium and magnesium deposits. I impressed my daughter's student buddies by sorting out a disgusting loo in their shared house some years ago. Told them they should have paid more attention to their Chemistry teacher! However, to stop it getting that far, give it a good brushing every other day with a little squirt of nothing more offensive than washing-up liquid; that stops the build-up.

You could soak your gold and diamond ring in a drop of gin, roses - it makes the diamonds sparkle.

Ice cubes didn't work on my carpet indents.

I just Googled Opaque Window Film. Seems there lots of varieties and places you can get them. They look great to me

Fairy liquid and toothbrush cleans my gold rings.

I won't have any venetian blinds, too fiddly, vertical blind where needed and a roller blind in the kitchen.

Not exactly cleaning but has anyone a tip for removing indents on carpet after furniture has flattened down the pile?

yep- and the reason I now have a soup maker ;) - I get in the garden and forget all about the soup on the stove!

Burned saucepans, I'm an expert, (laugh) layer pan with bicarb, thin layer of white vinegar, let sit 30 mins or so, then scrub. If badly burned pop on stove until boiling, cool, then scrub.

Spray DRY toilet bowl with white vinegar then shake bicarbonate of soda on top of vinegar, wait 30mins or so then brush the flush. Voilà.

To clean my mams false teeth I put 1t bicarb in tooth mug + a good squirt of white vinegar + couple drops bleach. Fill mug with hot water, brush teeth with clean water, pop teeth in & leave over night. Of course next morning brush with plenty water to get rid of bleach. (Sterident is SOO expensive here is South Africa) This hasn't damaged mams teeth & they are still nice & white.
