Cosmetic surgery in later life

I'm having reduction mammoplasty tomorrow in our local Spire hospital. Size 36GG has all sorts of discomforts not strictly cosmetic. Hoping to go to 36A/B, that's what my surgeon suggests. Have had the full range of blood tests, liver and kidney function, you name it, plus ECG. I have to go for a Clexane (anti-clotting) injection late this evening, then admitted tomorrow morning at 7.30 am.

I'm 77 and happily-married for the 2nd time. Thank God, I have the emotional support and everything else. I'll be doing nothing at all for 2 weeks, rest, rest, rest, to allow for healing.

Drains out the following morning then up for shower. Hope to feel a bit more like a human being on Saturday! Home Sunday morning.

Good luck Margrete , you're braver than me I've wanted to have that done for years (38E) but I've never been brave enough or been able to justify the expense with my limited savings, I also thought I was too old at 64 but I'm obviously wrong. Hope all goes well and you get the result you want..

I don't regard breast reduction as cosmetic - I think it is medical, as you mught have suffered so much discomfort.
I am normally totally opposed to all elective surgery, as my daughter's life was ruined by a negligent surgeon during an operation for a gastric band. I am sure you have researched your surgeon's credentials carefully and know that he is experienced in this particular procedure.

Good luck, Margrete. If I had the wherewithall, I wouldn't adjust my body shape but would probably go for tooth implants.

All done and dusted yesterday, now all that remains is healing and recovery. Home tomorrow. Everyone has been fantastic, can't fault any of it. OK, it cost money - could be called 'spending the kids' inheritance'! Well, it's mine, I earned and saved it and to me it was well-spent.

I agree with Greatnan this is surgery for a medical reason.

I don't agree with elective surgery myself but if people want it and are willing to pay for it then good luck to them

Hope you make a good recovery margrete and its not the kids inheritance you are spending - its your hard earned cash!!

That is very good news and I hope you have a speedy recovery and enjoy buying some new tops! Never mind the kids, you deserve to benefit from what you have earned.
