Industry; has anyone watched it?

Yes I've watched them, there's a helluva lot of sex and drugs. I must be feeling my age, I was more interested in the murky world of banking and what was going on on the trading floor, although I can't pretend I fully understood all the implications of the frenzies that occurred as to "sell! sell! sell!" when all the traders screens were going into overdrive. The series kicks off with a group of graduates starting out, the punishing hours they are expected to work and the fierce competition to secure a permanent position. I did find it quite compulsive and original. As expected a lot of the main characters weren't particularly nice, neither was the environment they worked in.

Hayley said the ending of series three was probably the best ending to any series she’s ever seen. I usually like her recommendations and she said herself that it wasn’t something that she’d usually watch. I’d never heard of it.I’m currently rewatching Middlemarch so it’ll be a bit of a culture shock.

I watched some time ago and found it rather unsettling. Especially as I know several young graduates who had jobs in the city.
I haven’t bothered with subsequent series.

Give it a go and see what you think MayBee. I watched it because my ex worked for a bank that is now JP Morgan. That was years and years ago, but it opened my eyes to the hours and input American corporations expected from their employees.

They’ve commissioned a fourth series so it must be popular. Hayley also had Rivals in her top five; again not the sort of series that she thought she would like. I can’t watch that though as I don’t have whichever channel it’s on.

Industry, I was expecting car making or other manufacturing but no its banking and finance. Gambling, for every winner there is a looser, these days it’s computer algorithms competing with each other.

Well, I can understand the sex and drugs stuff far better than all the financial trading which is complete gobbledegook to me. It is strangely addictive. Reminds me a bit of This Life from years back. It is stressful, too. Makes me think of young people I know who worked in tele sales at one time and the awful pressure they were put under.

Actually I’ve realised that it wasn’t no 1 on Hayley’s list. Say Nothing was no1. But she ad said it could easily have been no 1. I need to get to series 3 just to watch the ending, though.

I've watched all the series and quite enjoyed them but I don't know why really. The gobbledegook quotient is high and the sex and drugs are pretty prevalent but there's something about some of the characters that is compelling.

Hayley said it wasn’t the sort of series she should like but she did. I think it’s very well done. I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything quite so steamy; even Game of Thrones wasn’t as bad. Having watched series one I’m quite invested in the characters now. The sex scenes, of which there are many, just wash over me.

I watched the first two or three episodes of the first series but there was just too much sex & drugs & appalling behaviour for me to enjoy it.

I remember really liking Harper because she had to overcome some adversities to get the position as well as knowing she'd covered up the fact that she'd never actually graduated from college in the US.

I went from loathing Yasmin to understanding why she was the way she was and quite liking her. Started off liking Harper but then disliking her. There’s a lot of depth to the characters which isn’t apparent at first and Hayley says the characters develop over the series. I was really scared at the end of series one that Robert was going to have a motorcycle accident.Trying not to start on series two until I’ve got all the Christmas decorations down.

to her, I don't like her sly-looking face actually.
Also, I can't believe that both she & the other so-called actresses
would allow themselves to be so blatantly sexually explicit on the
small screen? I'm not prudey but it really was a shocker!😬

It actually seems wrong for any of those young actors to have been expected to act in that way. I was shocked, too, and can’t quite understand why I have found the series so addictive. I felt far more comfortable, after series one, to go back to rewatching Middlemarch. I think I warmed to Yasmin because of the way she obviously cared for her rather useless boyfriend. I’m going to go back to the series because I want to find out what this great ending to series three is.

I’m now part way through season two. Still can’t understand why I find the series so good, especially as I haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about. Might as well be watching a Scandi noir without subtitles when it comes to understanding the plot.

Have now finished the whole series and agree with Hayley Campbell in that it was a very good ending to series three. Still can’t understand why I’ve been so enthralled by it and still don’t understand 99% of what I’ve watched. I think the acting was superb, as were the locations ( I love things that are filmed in super cool houses) and the soundtrack. Now going back to my usual tv watching of period dramas!

Who is Hayley Campbell?

Hayley does a radio programme called Must Watch. I think it’s radio 4 or 5 but I listen to it on Sounds. They did a best series of 2024 and Hayley put Industry near to the top. I’d never heard of it but usually like her tv choices. It’s borderline pornographic so I shouldn’t really like it, and there’s no way that I’d watch it with anyone except the dog; far too embarrassing. But I’ve been gripped by the characters, none of whom (apart from Robbie) are remotely nice. It’s possibly like Succession, which I’ve never watched.

I’ll put it on my list😄.

Bit of escapism (or wishful thinking) never does any harm.
