Netflix recommendations

I have just finished watching The Fall I can't believe that I had missed it previously when looking for a good series so many twists and turns.It is certainly not light hearted but very good.

I loved "I Used to be Famous" - the title was off-putting but it's actually a beautiful heart warming film. Would happily watch again.

Not sure if it's Netflix - but it us on UKTV though so free.
"A Place to Call Home" Australian drama.
I did watch some on Netflix or Amazon can't remember which.

A Place to Call Home is brilliant and very watchable. The first few series are on Amazon and then you can watch it on UKTV .. although the adverts on that channel will drive you mad as they crop up about every 5 mins.

Thanks for the suggestions. Netflix is the only paid-for streaming channel we have so apart from the free ones (which really means i-player as I'm not sitting through endless adverts) that's the only option.

Offspring, on Netflix would be my no.1 recommendation for people I don’t know. I just feel everyone would enjoy the series.

Have you watched Virgin River on Netflix? I find it very soothing, lovely scenery. Not sure if your bloke would like it, though!

I loved this too. It really captured the essence of what is important

I agree with Ro60, 'I Used to be Famous' is a very enjoyable and thought-provoking film, and the acting was superb.

Don't want to give too much away, but I was reflecting for days afterwards about the performance of the young boy Stevie, who is autistic, and played by the neurodivergent actor Leo Long. I think we'll see a lot more of this young actor.

I enjoyed Offspring too.
But the "intro" is supremely dull... be warned.
It totally put my daughter off.

Sadly Offspring is no longer available on Netfix as it ended on September 30th. Glad that I found it a few months ago so managed to watch it all. Bizarrely have seen that the main actress, Asher Keddie, has popped up in the recent Channel 5 series with Nicole Kidman, but playing an American!

I enjoyed 'Dead to Me'. It's a black comedy with Christina Applegate. It is set in California and about two grieving women who bond through therapy.

That doesn't make it sound very funny but it is typical American witty black humour.

There are two series of 10 one hour episodes.

Just started watching The Watcher on Netflix, enjoying it so far and loving that it’s in episodes so we can watch a bit at a time (often do that with films too as I find it hard sitting still at home for lengthy periods).

We’ve been watching Borgen and enjoying it.

I have started watching The Courier (starring Benedict Cumberbatch) and enjoying it so far.

I can definitely recommend The Courier on NF I mentioned above. It's based on a true story and is gripping.

Is The Watcher supernatural? It keeps being recommended to me but I don’t like horror - scary thriller is fine.

The Watcher started watching it told our son they binge watched it I admit I can’t watch it late at night!

I posted too soon it’s not blood lust horror well not up to now but it is intriguing.

No, it's not supernatural. It is based on a true story, but there is no ending as such, as the case wasn't solved IRL.

I quite enjoyed it, but I felt let down at not knowing whodunit. If I'd know that first, I probably wouldn't have watched it.

I wondered that too, Doodledog so I googled it. No, it's not a horror, thank goodness, but a thriller. (The Watcher).
Anyway, I finished watching it yesterday and enjoyed it even though it's a bit weird. There are 7 episodes.

I found the end less than satisfactory, *Hurdy
Gurdy* and wondered if there might be another series?
