Anyone looking forward to this? I've just finished the book-it was thoroughly gripping.

Can't wait! Sunday night at 9pm.

It was an excellent book, so I'm looking forward to Sunday with eager anticipation!

Definitely on our ' to be watched' list

Read the book a couple of years ago, very good. I shall watch the dramatisation and hope it does the book justice. Emily Watson plays the female lead and have always thought she's a very good actress in everything else I've seen her in.

I enjoyed the book and am in two minds about watching the serial because so often the dramatisation doesn't live up to the pictures I have created in my mind. However, enough time has passed since I read it, so most likely I will leave the TV on.

I also enjoyed the book - have just set the sky box to record!

I read the book a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the television adaptation - just hope it lives up to expectations!

I haven't read the book and I m looking forward to it

Alima Sun 22-Jan-17 22:09:05

This looks very good, maybe better than the book which I found so-so.

BlueBelle Sun 22-Jan-17 22:18:27

Well that didn't hold me, hope it gets better, I m not chomping at the bit for next week

Rigby46 Sun 22-Jan-17 22:42:39

Humm - haven't read the book. But what is going on? Is she being set up by him because of her work? How does the rapist know about her 'affair' - I kept thinking it was a bit sordid tbh without wanting to sound prudish. I suppose I can't help but think that at her age I'd have been wanting a big comfy bed to dtd in grin

BlueBelle Sun 22-Jan-17 23:00:38

I just thought her knickers were up and down like a hotel lift all in one hour .... hope it ll improve I was looking forward to it

Nelliemoser Sun 22-Jan-17 23:08:59

The constant background noise (?music) annnoyed me. I think I will be following it though.

Grannyknot Mon 23-Jan-17 07:49:48

PLEASE FLAG IT UP IF YOU'RE POSTING SPOILERS - I haven't watched all of the first episode yet, nor have I read the book.

I wondered whether her knickers were control panties, she took so long to get them off. I'm finding it difficult to swallow that a scientist would fall for such a superficial character, but then what do I know? ?

Will watch again, I like Emily Watson.

DH kept muttering, "Why has that never happened to me?" I told him to ring the help line number given out at the end?

NfkDumpling Mon 23-Jan-17 08:01:28

Glad we watched though to the end. Otherwise we probably wouldn't be bothering to continue with it.

Grannyknot Mon 23-Jan-17 08:04:06

I've just read a review where her lover is described as oleaginous (I had to look it up) and I agree - oily. How could she fall for such an oily character?

Greenfinch Mon 23-Jan-17 08:11:52

When is something interesting going to happen? I asked DH .It did at the end so will continue to watch next time.I had forgotten it was a kind of flashback.

Greyduster Mon 23-Jan-17 08:22:32

I didn't like it; I thought it was sordid and God knows I'm no prude. I also can't imagine anyone with that much intelligence being enveigled into fumbling in dark corners with a snake like him!

PRINTMISS Mon 23-Jan-17 09:04:08

I agree Greyduster although we shall probably watch to the end just to see what the beginning was all about - other than the fumbling and groaning.

Alima Mon 23-Jan-17 09:11:13

To be fair the TV version does seem to be a true reflection of the book.

TerriBull Mon 23-Jan-17 09:19:53

Yes I thought so Alima, I had forgotten some of the plot, but remember I found the book engrossing but possibly not from the start where there's a lot of grunting and groaning, but I recall the momentum did build once the book got going. I think the general concensus is from those that have read the book that it was a real page turner.

ninathenana Mon 23-Jan-17 09:23:19

I fell asleep......
nothing more to be said

Lona Mon 23-Jan-17 10:05:54

I thought it was slow and fairly boring. There was no sexual chemistry between them so it was very unconvincing. He was a little creep.
Nobody with any sense would go into a small broom cupboard while a strange man held the door.
Very disappointing for me.

annodomini Mon 23-Jan-17 10:31:43

I was disappointed, though I might persist into the next episode to see if it gathers momentum. I think the lack of pace in the first episode might have lost the BBC a lot of viewers already. Alternatively, I might just re-read the book.
