What would you pay?

I see the Halle Orchestra are giving a concert in September at the Bridgwater Hall at which no tickets will be sold but the audience asked to pay what they think it was worth at the end of the concert. I realise you haven't heard this particular concert but their work is very well known to many of us through various mediums. We have been to see them several times in Nottingham and have thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Several students at graduation ceremonies at Salford Keys were asked if they would go and what they would pay. One said £50 which when you think what people pay for a pop concert I suppose they would estimate this to be about right but in my view a bit expensive. We usually pay about £25 a ticket. What would you pay?

Concerts with a whole orchestra are more costly than chamber music.
We have just paid 90 Euros each for a concert in Baden-Baden as I like to splash out on something really special when on holiday.
Where I live 25 Euros is the price for 4 or 5 musicians on stage. 40 for an orchestra.
I grew up in Sheffield and went to Hallé orchestra concerts with my father and from school.
If they were playing something ultra modern I wouldn't pay anything!

My friend and I go to the Bridgewater hall whenever we can, but the prices have gone up in the last couple of years so we have to be choosy.
It of course depends what they're playing, but we would probably pay about £38.

The nice thing about this is that it may not be what you would like to pay but what you can afford so that people like me would be able to go.

I started a thread about something similar a while back, but regarding concert tickets generally, not orchestras. Paul McCartney was coming to Birmingham and, as a lifelong Beatles fan, I had a look to see how much the tickets ere - £141.00 each. Needless to say we didn't go.
