Ooh I loved the Byrds. I will try to catch it. All that long floppy hair and Cuban heels and lovely melodies....sigh smile

Was a fascinating programme. I often watch the BBC4 music programmes and thought it would just regurgitate what was in another programme I saw but the inter relation between so many American bands never ceases to fascinate me. And hadn't realised that Primal Scream are heavily influenced by them. Might be on catchup.

Oh, I didn't see that - wish I had. I'll watch the one that's on tonight.

Last night, I watched a orogramme about the drummer, Ginger Baker. It was fascinating - i never really liked Cream because they were so self-indulgent and didn't seem to need an audience when they drifted off on their long sessions - boring.........but, watching him play again reminded me how good he is. He always reminded me of Animal in the Muppets - completely wild.

I saw a programme about Jack Bruce when he died; he and Ginger loathed each other, didn't they? Eight Miles High is on iplayer [which I can't access]. I borrowed a Best of Cream cd to listen to recently but found that I only really liked 'White Room'. There was also that film about a drummer that was on recently; rave reviews and most men I've spoken to loved it [it must be a 'man' thing], but I was bored stiff. And yet I've just bought Goats new album, which is all tribal rhythms and I love that.

..the film is called Whiplash....

Maggiemaybe Wed 08-Jul-15 11:11:26

Oh, I really enjoyed Whiplash. Mind you, as one of the very few women I know who couldn't get beyond the first ten minutes of ruddy Mamma Mia, I suspect I'm not very feminine.

Tegan Wed 08-Jul-15 12:38:57

It was the repetitiveness of it that I couldn't get on with, and it had had such rave reviews. When the teacher kept getting him to play the same things over and over again it drove me bonkers. The S.O. hated it also. [I agree about Mamma Mia; I've only seen a bit of it on the telly and it didn't hold my interest at all].

Missed the Byrds sad Will try to catch it elsewhere. Watched the programme about Ginger Baker. There was something about him back in the day that gave me the creeps. The programme didn't do much to alter that feeling.

Tegan Wed 08-Jul-15 13:12:54

What station was it on? I keep missing things these days

Tegan Wed 08-Jul-15 13:15:44

Aha; Imagine...it'll be on catchup. I saw the one about Jef Koones last week [a name that I knew but had no idea what he did..thought it was to do with computers blush].

rosesarered Wed 08-Jul-15 16:31:11

KatyK...... My feelings too, I thought he was horrible ( Ginger Baker)

rosesarered Wed 08-Jul-15 16:32:01

I managed 15 mins of Mama Mia!

Tegan Wed 08-Jul-15 16:57:54

I think it was the dungarees that I couldn't get my head round. And, I know that you're supposed to suspend disbelief in films but Pierce Brosnann and an ageing Meryl Streep confused. No way.

rosesarered Wed 08-Jul-15 18:43:26

The odd thing is..... I have several friends who think this film is the best thing since sliced bread and have been to see it several times and then bought it on DVD, I was starting to think it was just me. phew!

Ana Wed 08-Jul-15 18:46:23

No, certainly not just you. I couldn't believe how awful it was when I watched it on tv!

I still love Muriel's Wedding though - now that was a feell-good film with attitude grin

rosesarered Wed 08-Jul-15 21:38:27

Oh yes, I remember Muriel's Wedding, a good film, an Aussie film?

Ana Wed 08-Jul-15 21:42:55

Yes it was - Toni Collette played Muriel, and went on to play the boy's mum in About a Boy.

Can't believe Muriel's Wedding is 20 years old!

Iam64 Wed 08-Jul-15 21:47:34

Oh I missed it, thank heaven for catch up I can listen tomorrow.
I still love Mr Tambourine Man

Yes, Ginger Baker didn't do it for me either, he was like Animal wasn't he.

Tegan Wed 08-Jul-15 23:11:28

Someone on another forum has told me not to watch the Ginger Baker programme because it will be an hour taken from my life that I can never regain. Which, for some reason means that I now HAVE to watch it sad.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jul-15 23:19:48

We gave up on Ginger Baker and went to bed.

My brother was a huge Cream fan but I didn't really appreciate Eric Clapton's brilliant guitar playing until much later on.
