I loved that film too - saw it a couple of times on TV but haven't got it on DVD. Another Australian one I could watch again is Muriel's Wedding. And the greatest cross-dressing film - Some Like it Hot. Unbeatable.

I love Muriel's Wedding too! I don't want to watch many films more than once, but that's one of them!

I love Terence in any role but his portrayal in'Priscilla' was outstanding. I saw it at the cinema when it first came out.I took with me a friend who is quite conventional -apprehensive about her reaction.She came out beaming and said 'Amazing-the best film I've seen in ages!'

I first saw Priscilla years ago at a local arty cinema. Loved it then.

But later on when I watched it again on tv I found the characters annoyingly narcissistic and selfish.

Some Like it Hot - absolutely brillliant. I've watched it many times.

If you liked Priscilla you would like current aussie film The Sapphires currently on release.

I loved Priscilla and Muriel's Wedding and have watched them many times. Strictly Ballroom and Red Dog were just as good. I also enjoyed Rabbit Proof Fence, it is a true story and not humorous as the others but worth watching.

They do make exceedingly good films down under. Red Dog was lovely. Priscilla was very dated [it was so old the video had an advert for the English Patient which had just come out on video; given that Priscilla was recorded from the telly it must have been a few years older than that]. Of all the actors that were in Neighbours when it first started, Guy Pearce must be the one that really made it as a Hollywood actor. Think I last saw him in The Road, but he does pop up in a lot of films.

Shine is another you might enjoy crimson. It's different again and won an Oscar and stars Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech). My ex husband had a tiny, tiny part (some of it was filmed in Adelaide) most of his role ended up on the cutting room floor.

I've always liked Bryan Brown. At one time he seemed to be in every Australian film going!

Should've remembered him for the 'Scrumptilicious men over 50' thread...

Oh yes Priscilla Queen of The Desert what a fabulous film.
Has anybody seen Victor Victoria? If not , buy it you will not regret it.
And since we are on that theme what about The Bird Cage?

All very uplifting entertainment.

Bill Hunter who was in Muriel's Wedding, Strictly Ballroom and Priscilla died recently. Also there are a few of the same actors in Muriel's Wedding and Strictly Ballroom.

Is that the film with Julie Andrews? I seem to remember I quite fancied the Victor character.

I've always loved Priscilla and I've always thought Terence Stamp did a wonderful PR job for Transvestites/sexuals looking so stunningly elegant when he was off stage instead of the usual cliche drag queen. Love Victor Victoria, I remember nearly laughing myself sick at bits of it. Strictly Ballroom was a film I wasn't going to bother with and then couldn't leave and Shine was just brilliant! I got home from work late one evening , put the TV on before I put the kettle on and saw Shine was on. Ugh I don't want to watch this I thought. Next thing I knew I'd sat through the whole thing and was nearly dead of dehydration but couldn't possibly have left it.

PS Bryan Brown is lovely, always seems such a nice bloke. Perfect in A Town Like Alice.

I'm still mulling over Terence Stamp's performance in the film; it was so poignant. Can anyone tell me what happened at the start [when someone died] because I couldn't make out what was said.

I can't find the main thread about The Sapphires but, thanks Jess for recommending it. I defy anyone not to love it . Laughed and cried. What is it with Australian films about true events [I'm thinking Red Dog not Priscilla!]? It were luverly.

Glad you caught it Phoenix. A little gem isnt it. Loved the very end with the real ones! Weren't they beautiful. Then and now.

The Chris O'Dowd character reminded me of Dylan Moran so I was hooked from the start. This is very rare for me but I'd give it 10/10. I've got the cinema advert for it next to me and it makes me smile just to look at it . Cinema mostly full of women but I reckon most men would enjoy it as well. The girl who played the one that had been taken away was particularly beautiful, and what voices!
