Hi,
As I was not able to fly Singapore Airways to NZ I have booked with BA to Singapore.
If anyone has taken BA on a long flight what were your pros and cons of the flight

Depends whether you are in business class, first class or economy I should think. I imagine it would be ok because they would go out of business if it was bad. The Asian and Middle Eastern airlines are all pretty good, have travelled long haul with most of them but never BA.

I came back from Sydney to UK return 2 weeks ago. I had to book flight at short notice and BA was only flight available. It was shocking in both directions, food disgusting. I was in PE and seat didn't recline! Final leg was Hong Kong to Sydney by Cathay - wonderful! Avoid BA if at all possible!

Last time we went to Oz we flew with BA, but business class. Obviously much better than economy.

If I could choose, I would pick Singapore Airlines, whichever class I was flying.

We tend to use BA business class for long haul, good service, good food and plenty of seat room when upright and flat.

I don't fly for 2 and reasons: I hate it and it is wrecking the planet.
If they can't even get a seat reclining mechanism to work how can we trust them to get the vital safety features to work!?

I will answer your question we flew to Vancouver and back recently with BA.

We flew economy, I wore a really lightweight merino matching top and trousers, no buttons zips etc, super comfortable and light, it was perfect, being comfortable makes a huge difference.

The seats were not too bad, they do recline and most of the BA planes have mouldable headrests, these made a big difference.
The TV was brilliant, a great selection of films, documentaries etc.

We were provided with earphones and a blanket.

We both thought the food was good, each meal is served with wine, we tend not to drink on a plane there were alternatives, tomato juice, water etc, tea and coffee was served regularly.

I took an eye mask and earplugs a cashmere pashmina which was much nicer than BA’s blanket and anti bacterial handwash with loads of tissues to wipe down trays.

If you look carefully at the layout of the plane before booking your seats you will see the areas with the drop down cots, guises is obviously where young children and families are and probably best avoided!

We didn’t pay to pre book seats we just did it as soon as check in opened online and got good seats FOC.

Our outward flight was fantastic the return not so good as we were delayed due to stupid people not going to the gate but wandering around the airport!
The flight was full of people coughing and spluttering and we got sat in front of someone with a child who constantly kicked my seat, the parents did nothing to interact with the child, not a story nothing!

On the whole BA performed well, we discussed whether or not we should have paid for economy + or premium and felt that it was probably not necessary for a 9 hour flight.

I hope this helps.

We flew BA PE earlier this year to Antigua. It was ok but not amazing. I prefer the Middle Eastern and Far Eastern airlines

Thanks all.
If my oldest son knew I had to book a BA flight I know he would be horrified. Although my brother keeps my thoughts positive but it seems, by your replies, no wonder BA still had free seats. At least the last leg; from Singapore to Auckland is by NZ Airlines that have a good name.

If there are free seats, you might get an upgrade. Just ask when you are checking in, you may be lucky.

Air New Zealand is in alliance with Singapore Airlines so I wonder why you had to book to Singapore with BA? They code share with Qantas.

We follow Hannah Ricketts on YouTube.
Now husband watched it last night, he was telling me that she did either first class, or business class with BA & flew somewhere like that.
She said it was worst service she had ever experienced.

Tbh, I was only half listening to him.
There is another guy on there who travels all over doing reviews on flights & hotels. Think he’s called ‘walk with Tim’ YouTube.

Oops, we’ve got flights to Sydney in January with BA. hope it’s OK. We stop in Singapore for refuelling, staying on the plane. We are flying back with Qatar so if it’s awful we won’t need to repeat it.
