Walking stick with seat?

There are some fantastic looking ones around - some are light and you can sit on them and put shopping in the sides. A bloke at our church has a really snazzy looking one. Make sure it is adjustable or you can end up with a stoop !

I bought one to use in town but found that I was unable to balance while sitting on the seat. I am in my eighties so maybe it is an age thing. If you can, I suggest you borrow one for a few minutes and try it out, while standing (and trying to sit on it) by a wall or stout fence. That is, you have something to grab onto if you wobble over. That is the voice of experience!

DH does not need a rollator, he does not even need a stick when walking, but at times he cannot walk more than a couple of hundred yards without a rest. He has one of these sticks that turns into a seat. with three legs and a round seat and it works very well. Unfortunately we bought it in a supermarket in France, so I can give you no details about make etc.

I have just got it out for a three day trip to Buxton, inconveniently hilly, but we are attending the G&S festival at the Opera House

Shooting stick type arrangements are not so easy.

No, we already had a shooting stick inherited from a relative and realised that that was not sufficient.

Best option would be to go to a mobility aids shop and try a few different ones. The old ‘shooting stick’ style might be difficult to balance as already mentioned. Personally, I think the safest and most practical would be a rollator walker with a seat but that would need to be folded up and put in the coach hold and if you do purchase one be sure to tell the tour operator.

OP .. book airport passenger assistance prior to flying .. it’s great and you don’t need to stand @passport or immigration control checkpoints .. you also whizz thru security as well👌

I have a “ shooting stick” which has a pointed end ,designed to push into soft ground. Not so good in town,

@fancyflowers . That’s the one I’ve got but I do prop it next to something solid to lean back on as I am wobbly.

They are not very easy to walk with either the seat gets in the way, I have one but can never use it, i swear by my two poles which you can rest on when you stop, but of course not sit. I would suggest a rollator if you wish to sit. xx

I have an adjustable foldup Flipstick which comes in various colours and is sold in a small carrying bag.It acts like a walking stick then the seat flips down when you want to lean against it for a rest. There are various different sizes for people of varying heights

I’m not sure if anyone has said so , but if you ring your airline and ask for airport assistance, they can arrange for a wheelchair and a person to take you through the airport avoiding the queues . This would ensure that you wouldn’t be under too much strain .

Ideally try before you buy. I tried one like this and found that the extra 2 legs got in the way when using it as a stick, and I tripped over the legs when using it as a seat as the legs stick out further than the seat. I suppose with time I might have learned how to use it.

I eventually purchased a folding Flipstick as I just wanted something very lightweight and portable which I could get out and rest on if needed. It still took some getting used to as you have to balance on the seat, making a tripod with your legs and the stick, as it has only one leg. If you know you'll need a seat every time you go out then compactness and portability are probably less necessary.

The OP says she is going on a coach trip so I assume no flights involved, perhaps passport control is when driving from one country to another?

The stick turns into a 3 legged stool . You sit astride it holding the handle of the stick so don't wear a skirt but it is very sturdy, light to carry and comfortable. Adjustable, it works well as a stick and as a seat. It also comes with a carrying cover so you can sling it over your shoulder if you don't need to use a walking stick just the seat.
I love mine it is ideal for queues or wandering round museums etc. I got it from Amazon
