Well done for the weight loss that’s brilliant.
Body control stuff is very tight and can be quite uncomfortable so my advice is to go a size larger than usual.
I have had all manner of these super tight things and once foolishly put two different ones on at the same time and passed out.
So congratulations and enjoy the wedding.

Never worn any shapewear but could probably do with it! Once tried on a body shaper in a shop and it was just so awful I nearly passed out.

M&S control slips are good if you’re planning on wearing a dress. I have a medium control one, it doesn’t ride up, and it’s pretty comfortable to wear all day, as long as it’s not a very hot day. Remember you don’t need to get one that’s very tight when you try it on, go for a size bigger than normal if you need to, because it will still smooth out any bulges

It’s needing the toilet on a hot day that shapewear can be difficult 😞

M&S do a variety of sorts and shapes.
1 sort for me isnt too bad. I had to replace my old one recently.
Rest didnt sort me out at all.

The only thing I like about Shapewear is when it is taken off, it's worth wearing just for that feeling.

I have lipoedema on my legs and excess skin from weight loss. I love Lipoelastic garments especially their active leggings in 3 colours. Expensive but the often have deals. They wash well and really improve the look

Mizo do lovely shapewear too is some lovely colours

Lovely to look at once you’re dressed and how you feel… but impossible to get out of sometimes!

Especially the pullover chemise styles if you have rotator cuff issues. Omg, have a person standing by for assistance.

However I’d like to congratulate you on your weight loss.

I bought a slip from Matalan to wear under a dress, thought it looked ok until I saw the photo's. I could see the shape of my hysterectomy over hang

My sister bought a slip from M&S (more expensive than mine) she was that uncomfortable she had to go to the restroom to take it off, it had rode right up too.

One tip .... Hold your bag in front of your 'belly' I put mine under my arm when having photo's taken. Oh how I wish I had done it! C 'est la vie!

I find the slips fine and the all in ones. The 2 pieces roll up and down so I look like a Michelin man!

I have no experience of shapewear, but is it not much the same as buying a good bra or corset?

By which I mean, go to a specialist shop and ask the advice of the saleswoman, rather than buying in a department store.

I use shapewear to give me a smooth outline and go one or two sizes bigger and I use the pants which reach under your boobs, so far they haven't slipped down I think because they are a size larger, and worn them all day. I got mine from Debenhams on line.

I bought a lycra type all in one from M&S. It was very comfy with a hook and eye gusset and a cut away top so you could wear your own bra. It gave a very smooth line and I didn't have to worry about bits rolling up or down.

I asked this question in June last year.

I wear shapewear for my bad back as well as to tuck my tummy in. I would feel unsupported without it.
However, I’m still on the hunt for one that really does flatten my tummy. Even Spanx doesn’t do the job and I’m a reasonably slim size 14.

I tried shape wear because I'm not as slim as I would like to be. After years of keeping my weight down, a serious problem with my back caused me to not stress about it so much. Anyway, I bought some shape wear so I would feel better at my daughter's wedding but I'm not 'that' much pleased with it. The all in one top really makes you hot! And it caused me some pain in my chest, strangely, so I decided to be happy the way I am regardless and I think I'm happier for it.

I'm tried the brand 'Conturve' and I really liked it at first but changed my mind after wearing the items a few times. If you want to be comfortable and have a great time it may be worth trying to just accept who you are and be proud of who you are, including any bumps you may feel shouldn't be there. You may well find that the most judgemental of your shape or indeed the only single judge will be 'yourself'!

Something not too small or tight. I like high waisted shorts so that my bum and thighs are smoothed over and it gets rid of knicker outlines. M&S have lots to choose from. Also, go to a good independent bra shop and have a new bra fitting - not M&S as they tend to put you in a band size that is too big and a cup size too small. I went from a 34DD in M&S to a 30FF in an independent store. A well fitted bra will also help with a smooth outline.

Its what is below the bra line that is usually the problem.
I agree with you Susan, its us being too judgmental about ourselves as well as the fear of being judged by others.
I havnt worn shapewear fir many years. I dont miss it.

You have done well to lose the weight , but I think it is much more important to be able to enjoy your sons wedding, and that comes from feeling comfortable and be able to pay attention to what is happening and enjoying it , without the constant tightness and thinking all the time about what you look like. Your son and his wife to be will have known you for quite some time as you are so why would you spoil the pleasure of the day by not being comfortable and enjoyig the occasion? It is you being there, being part of the whole thing that counts , not what shape you are. i hope you can relax and have a lovely time

Well said Madeleine, I agree completely with you. Elless very well done indeed - over 5 stone WOW! Rejoice in your success, forget the shapewear , if you don't, you risk feeling very uncomfortable and that is the last thing you need on such a special day. Be comfy and have a wonderful day.
