Fillers for Marionette lines

I’m almost 68y. I’d be too scared to mess about with fillers.

What are marionette lines? Apologies for the ignorance!

They are the lines that develop in older age, that run down from the sides of the mouth. Think of a ventriloquist’s dummy.

‘Lord Charles’ here with Ray Allen always comes to my mind!

Well, some kind of filler worked very well for Gordon Ramsay.

He looked much better without the lines.

I wouldn’t but that’s me I think there is beauty in every line your face is lucky enough to have lived through and I ve seen too many look strange but if you have the money and the courage and want to it’s up to you

Go for it if you feel confident. Would never be for me though !

Having seen that poor girl's 'trout' mouth after fillers, I vowed never to try anything.

I hope it goes well! I haven't had fillers yet but do have botox on my forehead and, last time, had it around my mouth. So satisfied - my mouth is slightly fuller but it is so subtle.

Marionette lines are the grooves that develop around your nose to the outside of your lips, deepening as you age.

Flaxseed, it you can afford it, and the lines bother you, then go for it. I would ask around for a good reference to a clinic, and maybe ask for some before and after photos of previous work.

So many of us say we are not going to have anything done, and let nature take it's course, but some of us do end up with features that we really don't like. For me it is mid-cheek lines, from the inner corner of my eye to mid-cheek. They aren't quite proper eye-bags, but I'm afraid they will be in years to come! I would love laser tightening treatment, but I just can't justify spending the amount on myself. I do some face-yoga in the mornings to keep the muscles underneath stronger, but you can't stop time...

Younger women seem to be much more at ease with these treatments, while us older women screw our hats onto our lined old foreheads and refuse to consider it.

Excellent idea, I have fillers and Botox. Makes a world of difference and takes years off.
I took the advice of a close friend who looks so good and it’s subtle, so make sure it’s a good recommendation.

missAdventure I never thought I would consider anything like this. I always thought it was for the vain and superficial.
Until I started to hate what I see in the mirror that is.

The practitioner I am booked in with is medically trained, and has lots of good ‘before and after’ photos.
I will let you know how I get on. Must admit I am thankful for masks as I will have some injection site marks for a couple of days! ?
I am on annual leave from work so hopefully any bruising etc will be gone before I return!

I can't see any merit in putting up with something that bothers you, if it's easily fixed (hopefully!)

It's just regular maintenance to a lot of people nowadays.

I am thinking about this treatment but worry about the cost. How much is it ?

For fillers I'd go to a dentist, seriously. They seem to be advertising this type of procedure and obviously you'd be treated by someone who is an actual surgeon, rather than some sort of 'practitioner'.

The cost is prohibitive as fillers and Botox have to be replaced regularly. Better to have a facelift if you have money to burn.

I had fillers for Marionette lines, about 5 years ago. It cost £700 over 2 appointments, and I was thrilled with the results, which lasted a couple of years ago. It was done at a cosmetic surgery clinic, in the city centre.

Last year, the lines were particularly bad, as I'd been on a ventilator for 2 weeks, and the marks were really ingrained. I paid £200, for one appointment, at my local pharmacy, last November. I was pleased for a few days but then noticed that where the lines had been filled, there were white scars (like stretch marks) in the place of the lines. This has worsened, and the man who did the fillers advised me to massage the area, daily, he said the white scars were "just the fillers showing through the skin" Absolute tosh. I'm now line-free but instead have quite obvious white scars.

Go to someone reputable, and get some recommendations, if possible.

I had fillers for marionette lines just last week. I was apprehensive but I am very pleased with the results. I had minimal amount of filler and the result is very subtle. I do feel it's a bit self indulgent with everything that's going on in the world but I don't spend money on expensive creams and makeup so I treated myself. I didn't find the treatment painful and I had a very small bruise at one corner of my mouth which has gone now.

I am a bit confused by this. Botox doesn’t fill anything. It blocks the signals from the nerves, stops the muscles responding but doesn’t do plumping.
Was the Botox injected into the muscles that pull the corners of your mouth down so your mouth looks less miserable?
I’m not suggesting that you look any more miserable than the rest of us ?. As one ages the muscle that pulls up the corner of our mouths weakens so that we don’t look quite s happy.
