Do you go alone?

I have a friend who is totally honest when I try on clothes and stops me buying too much black and navy. I stop her buying beige. If she says I shouldn't buy something but I still like it I know it is right. No point going with someone who says what they think you want to hear (DH)

I love shopping with my new soon-to-be DIL. She drags me into shops I usually wouldn't venture into and gets me to try on things I wouldn't have thought of but that really suit me. She's got great style and doesn't try to dress me up in inappropriate things, but has really helped get me out of my rut of wearing the same boring old things. For instance I bought a fitted red dress a few weeks ago. I would never have considered red or worn something that wasn't loose before. But it looked really nice on - even my husband agreed! And then we go for a coffee or lunch after too which is lovely.

If I want to buy clothes I prefer to go on my own, so that I can try things on and not feel that I am keeping anyone else waiting.
If it just a tootle round the shops then I love going with my daughter.
Husband and me usually do food shopping together.

Always go shopping with best friend to look at new styles and colours.
Then we have coffee and cake and a long sit down to natter.
Then, I go back to the shop/s where I may have spotted some clothes that interest me on another day.
Always do trying on and pondering on my own.
NEVER do clothes shopping with DH. He says I look lovely in EVERYTHING!

I go with DH or DD3. They both make me leave my comfort zone and Dh pays more than I would!!

Either alone or with female friends, never a relative!
With friends, we all encourage each other to buy things and it’s fun, but I need to be alone to get the food shopping done, although sometimes we do that, M&S particularly as DH likes all their food.

I prefer to go alone friends or relatives won’t necessarily like the same shops as me so I would hate people hanging around bored I d feel I needed to rush or I d be bored with their choices so best on my own

Yes definitely on my own, I don't want to bore others, neither do I want to be bored whilst someone else is doing their shopping. In my younger days I'd accompany friends on shopping expeditions, but these days I find looking at things other people want to buy very dull, I appreciate that could well be mutual. I'd far rather get together for a lunch or coffee then I can give that person my full attention.

Usually shop on my own. DD and I can manage on a casual shop and I have recently discovered the joys of window shopping with DDil and DGD.

But if I am going shopping to buy anything specific, I always go alone.

My DH would honestly rather have his teeth pulled than go clothes shopping with me. Not so bad if it is something for the home. He has bad memories of being dragged around clothes shops with his mum and sister when he was very young. I heartily glad to go on my own. I do show him the odd thing that I like and he does have his 'Gok Wan' moments when he picks something out for me, - usually a very good choice - but bless him, every 'male gene' revolts at the idea of a trip to the shops together.

My best style adviser is my adult GD. She has always been able to tell me when an outfit does or doesn't suit me. Unfortunately she now lives too far away for us to have regular shopping trips (and lunch). I'll just have to trust my own judgement.

I mostly shop in charity shops and have never regarded shopping as either pleasurable or a leisure activity. When my youngest daughter was getting married I arranged to go into the city with her to find my mother-of-the-bride outfit and I was dreading it; really, really dreading it. My wonderful girl took herself off to the shops on the day before we were due to go together, found the perfect outfit for me and I simply had to turn up and agree to it. I was so, so grateful. If I absolutely had to take someone clothes shopping with me I would take my youngest son; he's patient, kind and very tactful in saying what suits me and what doesn't.

I'm best suited to either going alone or with one of my closest friends who is brutally honest with me if something really doesn't look right on me. I usually find that if I really have to have an outfit for a special occasion, I can never find anything I like and get fed up with trawling round the shops. But there are always loads of great things available when I don't actually need them!
