In the GN feature on knee-length dresses, is this the best M&S example they could come up with? It looks so unflattering! I don't possess a dress, but if I needed one it wouldn't look like this!
I suppose if a twenty-something willowy model was wearing it, with 5" heels and all the right accessories, it might look stunning. But only because the wearer is stunning to begin with. Obviously no chance for me
That dress looks awful. Is it meant for Winter or Summer? Definitely not for me but I don't wear dresses much anyway. I'm thinking of giving up bras, too...............
I love wearing dresses and make ( and buy ) a lot. But this looks like it would maybe look better with a nice wide leather belt, chunky jewellery and knee high boots , maybe a long sleeve coordinating t shirt underneath. In other words, it's a bit dull but could be dressed up. That picture wouldn't entice me to try it.
Nothing that is designed to have a body inside it looks great on it's own but as others have said it is how you accessorise it. The cut is hugely important too and when you slip on something that is well cut you just 'know' and it can make you look stunning - in spite of one's self and all the flaws. I would have to try it on to know and many times I have been pleasantly surprised by something which looks uninspiring.
It's not my style or colour. I have never owned a black dress. I showed it to Mr hjj, he just pulled a face when I asked him if it would suit me! I need a couple of dresses, but not this one.
I tend to find that if it looks good on the hanger it'll look lousy on me. If it doesn't look great on the hanger but there's something appealing about its fabric/colour/styling it may well be good on the body (ie I don't have a figure like a clothes-hanger). You're right Synonymous, if it's really well cut it can look great whatever the fabric. Masai fall into this camp for me (hopefully grabbed at sale price).
I don't do dresses unless with leggings. So I really wear them as a long top. My last buy was a Masai dress/long top for £30 in the sale......I so love it.
The one in the pic is too high up around the neck for me. Wouldn't break my stride to check it out. However if it was on display and styled with accessories it might look more attractive.
The word slouchy says it all. But then I don't really do dresses and certainly not knee length. Yesterday I was wearing the lovely Wallis dress I bought in a charity shop - geometric abstract pattern of brown, white, black, yellow and turquoise, with a mid calf handkerchief hem.
I have two dresses for summer, one is a £15 maxi dress I've had for 6 years and the other is a linen sundress I bought on ebay!
