Crocs (and Uggs)

Spot on, jessM - do I detect just a smidgeon of cynicism? It's a bit like the Emperor's New Clothes, isn't it?

Crocs are extremely comfortable though. Except, like today, when it's too cold and I'm wearing sheepskin slippers (made in Colorado to my specifications; expensive but I've had them for eight years and they're still going strong), I live in Crocs at home. They are also hard wearing and last for many years.

The words sheepskin slippers should be blued, butty to take you to the makers. I got some for DD2 at the same time. Mine are plain but she had some patterned ones. She loved them and wore them so much that she ordered another pair last year. If you have funny feet like me (wide at the toes, narrow heel) they will make adjustments for you. They really are special.

T K Maxx have very cheap genuine Crocs. They are really comfy and lightweight, especially when wandering down muddy lanes with the dog. Perfect for my feet, like walking barefoot.

I discovered Crocs when I was in hospital - I noticed them on all the nursing staff, and asked one of them what they were - she took one off and handed it to me - I couldn't believe how light it was! Since then I have worn them constantly at home - and - I confess when out.

They do cheapy pretend Crocs in Sainsburys and Tescos £5 a pair. Why pay more? Gch wear them swimming.

I got some imitation Crocs at Primark a couple of years ago, very comfy, and they were £2.99.

Amazon do something similar too. Love them!

I wish Crocs would make a gardening version so soil can't get in all the holes.

merlotgran ask for the catalogue at a croc's shop they do all kinds,I have had mine for about 10yrs they are the Disney version,where the holes are cut out they are shaped like micky mouse ears,they are so so comfortable and have always kept their colour,in the winter you can use them with the liners if you need to,with regard to Ugg's they are not all like the ones you see copied in Primarni type store's mine are black leather called the kensington boot they have been the best boots I have ever owned and well worth the money I paid,I have had them for 7 yrs so £ for £ a very good buy.

glass it was grumpyoldwoman's DD she was a senior manager and lucky GOW had quite a few pair's if my memory serves me well.

Does any know where to get cheaper versions of those flat, flexible 'shoes' that have individual toes? I think they're from Australia too but are incredibly expensive. They're great for exercising as they have grips and I would imagine would be great for pebbly beaches and swimming.

I have some UGGs but also some Celtic Sheepskin ones which I prefer - www.celticandco.co.uk - and I think they are cheaper.

Never worn Crocs but may try them in the summer - if we ever have one!!

goldengirl, I have some of the originals, Vibram FiveFingers. They were not cheap and are made in Italy, but they are great for not slipping on grassy slopes while scything because you can grip with all toes and your instep (too cold in Scotland for bare feet; these are the next best thing). Sorry, I don't know where to get cheaper versions.

DS2 likes his hobbit shoes too. Get some strange looks, particularly from children.

My crocs came from - need I say it? - Ebay, though some sellers still ask - and get - top dollar for them.

The journalists who write the fashion columns are often SO RUDE about Crocs and Uggs but I just look at the fashionable 5inch heels and pointy toes and wonder what they will choose to wear in a few years! . Clarks used to do foot-shaped shoes and I loved them, went abroad for a couple of years, came back and they'd stopped making them! Beautifully comfortable to wear, rather weird-looking. Bit like Crocs, really. Anyone else remember them?
