I was under the impression that the delicious ring shaped items I enjoy were doughnuts.
Not as I have seen more than once in the press donuts confused

They have been misspelt in that way for years and years, often by the very people who sell them. Probably another American import <sigh>

Yes, sellers use 'donuts' but I thought that was a deliberate ploy.
I haven't noticed it in the press until recently.
