I am not sure I want to know? That may be burying my head in sand I am not normally an anxious person I'm usually the person who looks for a solution to a problem but this type of thing is so overwhelming it can't be solved easily and I find that very overwhelming.

The tipping point has been reached. Can you imagine the panic if this was broadcast worldwide.

Sadly I've come to the conclusion that most grandparents don't care enough about the future to make changes themselves.
I have several times on Gransnet mentioned the problems associated with buying more and more unnecessary, usually plastic, stuff, usually from China.
I have been accused of being a sanctimonious killjoy. The usual response is "I've worked hard all my life, buying stuff gives me pleasure so I'm going to carry on doing it".
The fact that the planet is drowning under plastic is of no to concern to these people. They are not going to agree to anything else that "inconveniences" them.
Our only hope is that the younger generation have more sense.

I feel very worried about climate change. Europe is heating up twice as much as anywhere in the world. Wildfires are becoming the norm with the loss of ecosystems, wildlife, and human life.
People keep thinking the hot weather we are getting is ok, just hotter than normal, but this is not ok, far from it and with El Niño made worse by climate change we face terrible storms this winter and next spring probably with flooding and power cuts, and an even hotter summer next year. The number of people dying from the heat has risen substantially.
Europe is in danger, not from threats to our security from Putin et al, but from extreme weather. Hence the warning for people to stockpile certain essential items.

I actually like Chris, he has championed ecosystems and wildlife for many years. I agree he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and am sure he knows this too, but he will robustly fight for those without a voice that are losing their precious habitats and make no apology for that.

I would include buying unnecessary clothing every year, landfill and frequent flying.

I’ve seen it. It should be compulsory viewing for all ages. Very frightening. No point in burying our heads in the sand as we are facing huge danger with climate change. We must do everything we can even if all we can do is sign petitions.

eddiecat we must belong to different Gransnet. I find the majority of people on GN are concerned about the future and taking measures to do what they can to make a difference. Of course there will be exceptions, but the majority are environmentally conscious.

I have little time for the doomsters showing us films about is going to happen. I have yet to come across one that was even 10\% right. iN the 1960s we had film after film documentary about how we were going to be blown out of he universe by nuclear bombs, if we were not over taken by the next Ice Age first. There was the RAND corporation in California who published a much feted and read book called 'The Year 2000' Yes, some of their forecasts came into being. many did not.

I always things are great bags of hot air. Helping people feel guilty and feel good bcause they are in the know, but I hav never seen any good come from them.

Progress is made by people doing ordinary things, finding ways of making more energy efficient appliances, cutting emissions from our power stations, researching new technologies. Making their own lives, less energy and rubbish producing. Not those getting a shiver upa dnd own their spned fom maaterial like this.

Same here.
He interferes. He's not exactly popular with many people in Devon because he overstep the mark.

This is all at least 40 years too late. Decades ago, Friends of the Earth and other environmental groups were warning of all the things that are creeping up on us now (as I recall, in the 1980s they said we had 30 years before it would be too late - so now here we are). They were largely dismissed as tree-hugging hippies. On the whole, humans seem to be self-interested fools who can't see beyond their own noses. But all is not lost - when AI machines make us extinct, the planet might stand a chance of recovering - until the sun goes out...

I saw this film earlier this year via a post on fb, was worrying at the time. Now after our hot summer it’s even more so.
Quite agree with CarrotTop, we were talking about it 30 years ago. I remember one of my daughters doing a project at school and using FoE information. But most people didn’t listen.
Now we have the threat of Ai wiping us out in a decade!
No one took any notice of Issac Asimov when he wrote in the 1940-50s about robots taking over-the stories that the plot of the film I Robot from 2004 is based on. That film worried me! What’s going to finish us off 1st?
