A reminder of how history repeats itself.

We learn very little from history. At the moment the History group I go to are learning about the Crusades and although they happened in the 13th century a lot of what they were fighting for is still going on today.

I’ve just mentioned the Crusades in another post.

Daisy Anne, I often draw parallels from history! We rarely learn not to repeat what has happened before even though it can be spread out before our eyes.

I certainly think there is significance in the fact that the fight against Facism has almost passed from living memory.

Another pertinent quote (ascribed to Einstein, but probably not him) is, perhaps:

'Doing the same thing over (and over) again and expecting a different result'

The annoying thing about the 'fight against Fascism' is that, even though the characteristics of it have have been determined by studying the past, whenever one points out the similarities (or direct copies) in what is happening in the present day one is met with a barrage of denial...

I find it depressing how many people believe history to be irrelevent, but maybe they always have?

Every generations seems to overthrow the social priorities of the one before.

Whilst not dismissing the horror of the holocaust it is also good to remember that Hitler and the Third Reich did not prevail- so whatever befalls in the future this historical fact alone gives me hope.

I agree Maizie. People seem to have written themselves an alternative history where Fascism is concerned.

I suspect there are some people who think it was just about Hitler and WW2 and forget Spain, Italy and the struggles of the 1930s.

In any case, Israel now means a State.

Israel then meant a race.

So the message is not the same.

Israel (the state) is now the aggressor…….unbelievable to most of us but sadly true
I,ve boycotted Israeli goods for decades in support of my Palestinian friends and colleague who were thrown off their land had family killed and /or imprisoned just for existing .
I march with Jews FOR Palestine …..not Israeli.s ..not zionists .
Good people who do remember the past and don’t want to see it happen again with Israeli s taking Hitlers atrocities as the way to behave …..it’s horrific and very sad

I have a vague memory of a labour mp reporting it to the police and them not taking action. I know about it because it was some feminists who challenged the activists.

The leafleting and allegedly collecting addresses.
The book burning isn't the greens. It is a fairly regular threat from trans activists. I don't take that one too seriously, it is like watching toddlers have a tantrum.
