Glastonbury

Why is there such a massive amount of coverage from the BBC?

I thought they were short of cash, last night it was on 2 BBC TV channels, then this morning it was on Radio 4 Woman’s Hour.

I have no interest in it but understand some people do and therefore 1 channel should be sufficient, not this 2 channel monopoly.

Tonight we have politics ( a necessary evil) on 1, Glastonbury on 2 AND 4! And BBC3 ( channel set up for younger viewers) is untainted by Glastonbury.

Back to my books then 😤

Same here Fairislecable I've stocked up my bookshelves for just this reason.

Next week it’s the continuation of the Euros, Wimbledon starts as does the Tour de France, then it’s the Olympics…

I think lots of people are interested in it , but not everyone can afford the ticket price or indeed obtain a ticket,hence wide coverage.There.'ll be lots on Wimbledon and of course football.
There are other channels, and catchups.

As reported to the BBC website, I
"10 week old Findlay was held up on his dads shoulders" during a set by the DJ Anna Mac. The camera zoomed in on them and showed Findlay wearing a blue Babygro, they call them onesie these days, and ear muffs to block out the noise I presume!
I am sure the parents think they are being super cool but really? . I would not be happy if it was my DG, although I am sure everyone will say their baby their rules.

So whats your issue in particular? Annie Mac did her set at 1130 in the morning ...on the Other Stage...not the pyramid stage....lots of room to move around....big open area.. baby wearing ear defenders ...can't see a problem....Glastonbury is so family friendly....the kids field is amazing...so much to do....then baby sensory tents....chillax tents for parents and babies open 24/7 ....circus fields, cabaret fields , healing fields and greenpeace fields....kids have an absolute ball ....I've taken my GD a couple of times...they absolutely loved it

I was at the very first one. The Pilton Pop, Folk & Blues Festival. I live in Bristol so it wasn't far to go. Happy days.

I have tried to get Tickets but no luck so far. My Nephew is there lucky chap.
Amazing experience what ever you age some of the performances if you saw individually could cost you hundreds of pounds, here all under on sky.
It's probably not as expensive for the BBC as some other outside events?

I have done the IOW festival that was fantastic, brilliant fun, in our group we where aged 15 - 60 would I have taken a baby? probably if I had a good tent or accommodation why not?

People with kids normally stay in the family camping enclosure
..very child friendly

Oh yes Ziggy, it certainly was. I was madly in love with him after that. I actually went to see a few of the local acts like Stackridge but I never recovered from Tyrannosaurus Rex. They were just about to morph into T Rex that very week.

They came on stage (there was only one pretty makeshift stage then) near midnight. It was magical.

Amazing!!! I started going in 2005 and have seen big changes....but that first one must have been very special

Apart from noise It is very hot and sunny in Somerset. Not a good place for a young baby unless he is well protected.

Just to say - I was at the IOW festival in 1970 where Hendrix played ! I was 17.

The point being made was that there was a tiny baby there, only ten weeks old.

Hot, incredibly noisy music festivals are not suitable environments for babies, even if they are wearing ear defenders.
Selfish parents in my opinion

I accept though that I am speaking as someone who would pay good money not to go !

Wow Lady. Hendrix had died just before the Pilton festival (the first Glastonbury). There was a moment's silence for him. I suspect you and I could tell some tales.

I lived in a cottage opposite the 1970 IOW festival. Saw and heard it all for nothing. Memorable moments include lying in bed with the windows wide open listening to The Doors and Tiny Tim floating past the same windows in a hot air balloon. I wished it had been Jimi Hendrix! Joan Baez was a huge disappointment.

Great line up though.

Must admit I quite enjoy bits of Glastonbury on the BBC each year. I've just been watching Dua Lipa.
But I agree about babies. Not sure it's a healthy environment for them. But hopefully he'll be ok.
I'm looking forward to Wimbledon.
But thankfully the football is easing off a bit now.
Each to his own.

Loved today’s Glastonbury! There was an incredible eclectic range of music from artists I was not familiar with. Busy weekend with two more days of it. Plus the Euros. Wimbledon on Monday and the Olympics in a few weeks. Incredible entertainment on BBC and ITV.
Hopefully, the young child slept through it all. The ear defenders sound like a sensible idea. I like seeing young families getting out and about.

Id hate to live local to one of these events. Probably a good time to go away on holiday.
