New Caledonia riots and colonialism

The situation in Noumea and New Caledonia in general is not good. The Kanaks have had enough of French colonial rule and are rioting and burning buildings. The Australian airforce has managed to get a group of Australian tourists home but there are others still waiting to get out. We were due to go there this in December , it is a lovely holiday destination but I do feel sorry for the native peoples under French rule. Colonialism seems to always cause problems, sooner or later.
