Starmer and several labour MPs are members of Friends of Israel and the Israel lobby meaning that they get money have holidays to back Israel are more interested in supporting Israel another country than that their own constituents.

I hope you are very sure of the accusations in your first sentences.

I am not sure that "staring down" a group of people that he hopes to be representing as their Prime Minister in the future is quite the right way to go. I think he would be better to understand the concerns of people on both sides, I am sure that he did not mean to say that it was o.k. for Israel to break international law, but that was how it came out and I think he should now do his best to make his position clear.
I also think he should call for a ceasefire, as a gesture, even though Biden has not yet done so.

I’m no supporter of Labour but what Grany says is libellous.

I posted previously, I gave a talk at our local Maccabi centre several years ago. I was asked by a friend to speak to a group of older, retired members of this Jewish community centre. My talk was to be about my working life. I enjoyed the audience participation and on conclusion, was presented with a drawing with my name on it, with the statement - a friend of Israel. So, does this mean I can’t hope for a peaceful solution in this terrible situation. That I can’t see the suffering of the Palestinian people as well as recognising the terrorist attacks by Hamas were intended to create exactly the reaction the current Israeli government is showing.

A gesture to all of us really how can there possibly be anything wrong with asking for peace.
I agree he has tried to make his position clear but I am not sure that it has cut through, because there was a delay before he clarified his position. That means, I think that he has to work harder at it now.

I fear you are correct

No-one wants to see innocent Israelis slaughtered; no-one wants to see innocent Palestinians slaughtered. What is the answer? I wish I knew. It is so very sad.

Those who started this latest debacle hide behind innocent civilians.

The problem with Starmer and Israel has its roots long before this conflict. Amnesty International produced a report about the treatment of Palestinians which identified Israel as an Apartheid State. Apartheid, discrimination, inequality, whatever you want to label it, have always been things the Labour Party has opposed. Starmer refused to recognise the report. Why? He has consistently shown bias towards Israel.Why? Why would a left wing politician not criticise a right wing government that was mistreating people on the basis of their race?
The only thing this conflict has revealed is just how far Starmer is prepared to go, and just how out of touch he is with the Labour party and the British public.

He may be out of touch with the far left of the Labour Party, as he isn’t far left himself , hallelujah for that btw.Neither is he out of touch with the what?68 million who live here.
Even if he were, it’s his job as leader of his party to make the judgement that he thinks is the right one, just as it’s Sunaks job as PM to do the same.The UK shouldn’t decide things like that, it’s why we have government and politicians.

The UN Security Council still cannot agree a position on the siege of Gaza, though there is general agreement on the need for a cessation of hostilities. The same is true in the UK. What are you talking about Galaxy, I read what this man who you are referring to wrote, at the time I didn’t know anything about him. I posted what he said as it meant something. I said at the time next time I will check sources.
