Northern Ireland - how will this row end?

The shortcomings with the protocol were obvious from the outset, as BJ knew very well. He is responsible for this mess and has no excuse for blaming the EU. What is needed is a more conciliatory if not apologetic approach to further negotiations. But what are the chances of that happening?

I am so fearful for my relatives and friends in NI. Johnson is making a pig’s ear of this and he seems unaware of the possible outcomes.

Since 2016, I have scratched my head wondering how the NI question could possibly be settled because to me, there was absolutely no answer to it given the requirements and obligations of the Good Friday Agreement. The consequences of messing around with it are dire for all concerned.

I agree, Topsy. Northern Ireland was barely touched on in the publicity leading up to the referendum - swept under every carpet in sight. Do Brexiteers still feel they were not misled over the oven-ready deal?

I am very concerned about what is happening to the Good Friday Agreement. Membership of the ECHR is enshrined in this agreement but Johnson is said to be finding persuasive reasons for leaving in order to save his Rwanda policy. NI is to be thrown under the bus by the Conservative and Unionist Party.
