How awful Annie, I have often wondered about the costs of high profile court cases, I can't for the life of me think why it costs so much, I guess there is an accountability somewhere .someone somewhere must be reaping the benefits.

Are you saying that the £800,000 was the cost of his defense and was paid for by the tax payer as it was covered by legal aid or was this the total cost of the trial? I'm asking because the thread title is 'Legal aid'.

Our posts crossed. That's outrageous. Everyone's entitled to a defense but it's awful if that cost more than the compensation received by his victims.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the costs wouldn't it.

I was outraged when I read this in the paper today.

I think the rules about receiving legal aid have been tightened up now haven't they ?
