Ok, so you've commissioned a £200m polar research ship, and can't decide what to call it. Some bright spark has a great idea, let the people decide, have a referendum (why did I choose that word ??). So what does the conservative, level headed population of Britain come up with --- oooooops - Boaty McBoatface.
Now which is more embarrassing ignoring public opinion or using that name ??? I suspect that the bright spark will be going down with his ship.
