DebnCreme please do not worry, we appear to have loads of money. I discovered today that "call me Dave" has decided to donate one billion pounds to the Ukraine. My finger did not slip, it is one billion. Very magnanimous of him.

Just so long as we have plenty of money I should hate for the roads in our area to be left out, particularly after so many years of remaining untouched in the interests of reducing council costs!

I made gf lemon drizzle cake yesterday that I could let them have at a reduced rate - I'm sure it would be brilliant!!

Sounds ideal for our road, kitty. The main shopping area of our small town has been tarted up, but as soon as you get further up the road, the surface of both footway and roadway deteriorates hugely. It's the same everywhere. One of my friends has had to have new springs on her car and the mechanic reckoned this was due to the condition of the highways.

near me the lanes have become a honeycomb of dips and holes - rxcept for one where the holes have been tarmacked in - maybe someone important lives along it (and no it is not me ).
I realise Herefordshire has a lot of roads and a small population so this may explain why 'minor roads' do not get any attention there is even talk of leaving these roads to fend for themselves as it were - they are already not cleared or salted in the winter.
I live about 300 yards down a track shared with neighbour and farmer (who is worst for churning it up] but at least one can proceed at walking pace and take the pot-holes with caution - if you don't know the council road and hit a hole/chasm at speed that is different.
can we have a 'money is no object' attitude towards the state of our roads?

I suspect that "the great and the good" in their Chelsea tractors have no idea of how the other half live without 4x4s.

Have done it twice, and the pothole has been filled in within a week.

Thanks for that durhamjen have sent off but it is difficult when the problem is over a wide area. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens.

The roads round here are simply vanishing. I live in the country and the roads here are simply not seen as a priority because there are insufficient people affected by it. Our lane is, quite literally, crumbling away, from potholes which extend all the way across the road, to incursion from the sides as the edges fall away. It is only a matter of time before it becomes completely unnegotiable. The council appear now and again and bung a bit of tarmac in a hole - I am intrigued to know how they make the decision as to which! - and then drive off over all the other potholes. Sigh.

If you complain to your council, they should fill the hole in, because otherwise they would leave themselves open to a legal dispute. It costs councils less to fill the holes in than pay the fines. If there are three holes in one road and they fill one in, that's the one they've had the complaint about.

A result of many years of neglect by all persuasions of government, exacerbated by the weather. Roads which should have been properly resurfaced have been 'patched up' for years.
