Next month there will be a poll for electing police commissioners in England, except in London. Will you be voting? Do you know who your local candidates are? Do you know what their plans are? Will they just be party hacks? What powers will elected police commissioners have? Will the turnout be even lower than it has been in the ever-decreasing numbers for general elections? Will this prove to be more expensive than the present system? Is this a completely stupid idea?
As you may have guessed, I shan't be voting although I have voted in every election I have been able to vote in since reaching the age of 18. I have no idea who is standing in my region or what they represent. Politicising the police force seems to me to be exactly the wrong thing.
Unexpected opportunity to have a few days break next week and would love some recommendations
