TV program on legal power of attorney

I’m sure this subject has been discussed before, I searched but couldn’t find it. I was a bit spooked by the program a couple of nights ago suggesting that if one of us needs hospital care, without having POA, the other one of us would have no say in where or what care would be given. Our loved one could be sent miles away. I now want my husband and I to both have POA, and need advice from those of you who have had experience please.

We did ours a couple of months ago, £600 for both.

You can do it yourself online through the office of the public guardian for about £70 for each . ie. Health or wealth..
Bit tedious but instructions given.

Martin Lewis also has a video about it on You Tube. From what I gathered from this, many POA are invalid as they are not done properly. The Martin Lewis website had a link for a discount - I wanted both my daughters to have both finance and health POAs, and that would apparently be about £400 (I am not married) so I will be doing that ASAP hopefully before Christmas.

It costs £82 per LPA ( Finances/ Health) but is increasing to £92 from mid-November. DIY.
There is no need to pay anyone else to set it up.

I was very glad that we had done PoA for both health and finance while DH was able to do it because as Parkinson’s s took its inevitable toll I could manage both the money and his care without difficulty. Not being able to make decisions on his behalf would have made difficult circumstances much harder. Get it done for both of you and then put it away until needed -it may not be. Ours allow our children to act on our behalf (well, just mine now) if/when necessary. As my MiL observed over making a will, you don’t die any sooner and make life easier for those you leave behind. Why wouldn’t you?

It is very straightforward too and each section gives very clear notes.

My late Mum asked me to do her LPA and more recently I did my husband’s LPA following his stroke. Both went straight through with no problems.

I wouldn’t pay thousands when it is so easy to do on the Gov site.
