Good quality disposable plates

All that plastic in land fill !
Even nice paper plates are coated with plastic , or they would leak

You could buy bamboo.

Tesco sells disposable bamboo plates and bowls but I’ve no idea on cost. Personally, I’d bite the bullet and use crockery, I prefer to not put more stuff into recycling bins.

I used to have a large quantity of woven cane plate holders, they made heavy duty paper plates look acceptable and paper is better than anything else for recycling.
Unfortunately I lent them out to someone and never got them back.

I got my plates from Temu - very pretty , clear plastic with a gold trim. They won’t be going to land fill just yet - I’ll be using them for many parties to come.

PS - they are disposable, but I preferred to give them a quick wash in warm soapy water, but then I only had 6 guests.

You could get some from a charity shop and re-donate them afterwards. People will prefer china, as stated above.

Cafes nowadays serve teas in non-matching china. Once the food is served you don't really see the plates, so you don't even need to have a matching set.

The plates are probably the least bother to wash up, there will be pots, pans, cutlery and miscellaneous serving implements which create even more hassle.

Accept offers of help with the clearing up.

Ask everyone to bring their own plates, glasses and cutlery.

We used to host and feed parties served on my large collection of unmatched blue and white vintage blue bone china plates and bowls. All from charity shops; all different. Cheap as chips from charity shops back then. (NO chips or cracks).

I also have a huge charity -shop collection of old linen table cloths and napkins, many of them hand embroidered; a charity shop silver tray and mixed collection of bone china cups saucers and plates all featuring spring flowers. I used them to serve afternoon tea (with home made cake) to BB guests and special friends. These days, I still use them to do a traditional "afternoon tea" for my teen grand-daughter. She absolutely adores this little ritual just for us.

I have used these palm leaf plates before for a party they are very robust (not bendy) but they don’t look like china.

Looks like kiwiqueen isn't coming back. Has anyone seen her on any other thread? I wonder what she did in the end?

My friend bought bamboo and composted them. She had about 50 of us over recently for a party.

They were firm and pretty and had matching cute and bowls.

I'd use china ones and keep running the dishwasher!

12 is not so many I think but maybe it feels a lot if you usually cater for one - I do see that.
