Shower replacing bath?

Yes to the first part of your question and No to the second part!

We had our bath removed and a shower fitted and the shower tray is as long as the bath was and was custom made. Tiling was removed and replaced, floor tiles taken up, new basin and toilet too.

Definitely NOT doable in a day!

I'm looking to do the same as you Kamiso and have had three quotes, all companies say it will take between 4-5 days to install.

I suppose if the cubicle has the sides which are presumably some form of plastic and tiling is not needed it might well be possible. We replaces a Bath with a shower when we were renovating a house. We bought the largest tray we could comfortably fit in and it was wonderful. We fitted a Bath in the ensuite of our guest bedroom.

I have had that done by my son-in-law but not in a day. He used large panels on the walls instead of tiles and cut them to shape.
One thing I would suggest is checking the floor surface. I had a normal white surface and it's a nightmare for slipping. I have to use two large bath mats when having a shower and then rinse them and hang up to dry. I wish I'd checked out non-slip surfaces where a mat is not required. Is there such a thing? And I wonder how easy that would be to clean.

The ground floor flat (aka apartment) we are buying has an en suite and another bathroom. Climbing in and out now is ok but can see it could cause problems down the line! Perhaps I am overthinking?

I did the same as H1954 and it took 6 days to completely strip out the old bathroom fittings, replace all old plumbing, fit new shower, screen, wash hand basin and toilet, seal the whole bathroom, retile all walls and fit new flooring. I suppose it could be done in a day but I'm not sure I'd be confident it had been done properly and safely.

My non-slip shower floor resembles a skating rink so I bought very cheap mesh which I can pop in the washing machine and replace as and when. I cannot stand in the shower so there is sufficient space for a removable stool to sit on. Make sure the interior of your shower is not cramped. Find your own fellow or company to fit it- a lot cheaper than advertised on TV and they are stating they are able to do it all within a day. Yeh right!

Yes you can take a bath out and put a shower unit in it’s place.
But what you cant do is all the new tiling and floor work that will need doing. ?

We had a bath removed and a large shower installed. I asked for a handle on the wall to future proof it but use the handle now to steady myself when washing toes etc.

We took a 1700mm bath out and put a same sized shower tray in. The only thing was I don’t think we realised how heavy the tray we ordered was. It took two men to lift it, with difficulty, up the stairs and the plumber had to reinforce the floor “just to be on the safe side!” Certainly not a job that can be done in a day though. Depending on what sort of shower you are having the plumbing may need to be reconfigured for starters.

Your comment ‘as advertised’ is concerning, as Charleygirl said, get local recommendations, and you can get non slip floor tiles, as used around swimming pools etc.

From a personal view (being very unsteady) I'd say making sure you won't slip is a priority. As I said, I have a long shower (ex-bath) and use two shower mats. It's the shower gel that turns it into a skating rink! I don't know how anyone could stand on that to be honest.

Thanks for all the information. I was doubtful about the advertisement saying it could be done in one day. I think we need to view the flat again and get some advice from a bathroom fitter.
