Macular Oedema. Anyone has it?

I had cataract surgery on one eye in early July. All seemed fine at the hospital checkup mid August. But over the last week my central sight in that eye was slightly distorted. It was like a slight shimmer you get in a heat haze.

Luckily I got a quick appt at the optician yesterday. After a thorough check and scan he said there appeared to be macular oedema in that eye and he would refer me back to the hospital for an urgent review.

Appararently it can be a fairly common event after eye surgery which was a comfort to hear.

Anyone else with this condition and what treatment do you have or did you have if it has resolved?

Hooray for the internet last night which enabled me to read up about it on eye hospital sites and finally get to sleep

This happened to my friend earlier this year after cataract surgery.
She was prescribed eye drops for a time, then checked again in the eye clinic. It had mostly cleared and was thought to be due to her being diabetic.
She then got referred to another consultant in the diabetes eye department who thoroughly checked and said it had gone completely. She will have ongoing checks at that clinic every 6 months.
I hope this helps. It was rather worrying at first, but was resolved.

Thank you both. I am less worried now. It was a shock especially after my sight in that eye was so improved at first after the op.
Eyes are such a worry.
