DH (75) has had a painful knee for the past three months.
Went to three different physios, no good.
Saw the GP a month or so ago, sent him to get both knees x rayed.
Diagnosis moderate arthritis in both knees, prescribed stronger ibuprofen gel (been on milder one for ages), put him on list for knee injection.
I asked about knee replacement, but obviously not considered bad enough for that.
The gel is no help, and DH is in pain all the time. He usually walks a lot and cycles, but just can’t now.
The GP described it as a ‘step ladder’ process, but how long do you wait until it gets so bad that your life is badly affected?
Would a private consultation say anything different? Are the GP’s just told to put things off until things are so much worse?
I want him to be enjoying life now, no use having a new knee when you’re too old to get the benefit.
